  1. Caleb was right! Johnson County is dying and all because people there own cars and drive around all those subsidized roads.
They need density and organic kale and streetcars or they'll all perish!
And they need to stop enjoying themselves and getting their kids excellent educations and earning good livings.
They just need to talk with Sly and Russ more to find out how to be innovative and creative and artsy.
Oh, and mom and dad, please keep sending me money.

  2. I remember working at the Red Lobster in the late 80's. The worst tippers in the history of western civilization. To say a shopping mall is an end of an era is a good thing.

  3. 6:21's sarcasm is accidentally accurate.

Congrats rube, the only time you are right is when your joking.

  4. They should rename it Metcalf North now that people live at 180th Street.

  5. Joco is overrun with shopping malls. A lot of them are half (or more) empty. They make the place look like the Dallas suburbs. Which is to say, they make it look like the asshole of the universe.

  6. 90% of them are taxpayer subsidized.

But Tonys Johnson County doesn really care about that. There's a public transit project representing the largest investment in urban and eastside KC in its history, I mean CK hahahaha, to "kill" with the combined power and influence of 16 subrube-an fearbots.

  8. Some of the commentators here help us understand why so many around the country view Kansas City as a cowtown.
In the metro, over 80% of the residents live outside of KCMO and tens of thousands of KCMO residents live north of the river. At last look, the population of downtown was 10,000.
If you define anyone who doesn't live downtown as "a rube", most of the 2.4 million KC metro residents must be picking straw out from between their teeth.
Yet, if you do own a car and get around, you find that there many wonderful communities and neighborhoods and lots of energetic hard-working and successful people.
A fascination with downtown KCMO may be the fad du jour, but really isn't very helpful in a serious discussion.

  10. 80% (or more) of the residents of every metro live outside the core city. That's why its a metro. The difference between the suburban trolls on this blog and real people, is that real people know that there are no suburbs without and urban core. Its literally a prerequisite. And the healthier and more robust the urban core, the healthier and more pleasant the suburbs. KC is fortunate to have a wonderful urban core, with lots of amenities and culture and things to attract people given its small size, and everyone in the metro benefits from that, even if indirectly. There's a reason there no large suburban ring around Topeka and Peoria and Joplin...
