The Latest Kansas City Taxi Protest

Take a look at even more Kansas City Taxi controversy underway this week . . .

KCTV5: Cab drivers protest 'unfair' exclusive taxi contracts

Deets:

"Everyone is licensed and goes through the same requirements to be a driver here in the city, and it is not fair that one company gets to use it just because they have more money than everybody else," protestor Michael Bond said.

Jim Ready is the city's manager of regulated industries. He said the city is looking at ways to try to make the system more fair but adds it is perfectly legal for businesses to contract with one company.

Remember that TKC reported concerns about this story earlier in the year around February WITH a reply from Kansas City Taxicab honcho Bill George who seyz:

"Private business can choose companies they do business with. Just like a hotel selects a produce vendor, linen company, etc."

In light of the recent LYFT controversy . . . This old school cab battle reminds us of the constant struggle on local streets to make a buck.

  1. Yellow Cab never shows up, so it is Lyft of Uber for me.

  2. The cab bosses in KC need to be careful. If you get a Metropolitan Taxicab Commission like we have in St. Louis it will turn the industry upside down and screw it all up. The MTC literally has taxicab police that chase drivers down for infractions like wearing the wrong clothing (we have to wear a uniform), not wearing our ID badges when we drop off at the A/P (a $100.00 fine) and similar crimes against the commission. Be careful drivers, you don't know how screwed up it can really be!!!!! Also please go to

  3. Try getting a cab south of 103rd. If it shows up, it cab LITERALLY take hours. Anything is better than the joke we have now

  4. Of course it's not fair, but you need to understand that in order to be treated even fairly, much less specially, it's not a matter of providing an excellent product or service.
What's important is to have enough time to hang around the 22nd floor at city hall, schmooze self-important electeds, kiss some butts, and maybe even promise some campaign cash.
    Now you're cookin'!

  5. It seems as if KCMO City Hall is helping Bill George, Yellow become a monopoly. 1. City appoints him as a director of CVA. 2. City funds the Trolley which he uses for his personal business gain. 3.City gives him a concession at the airport for shuttle service which allows his employees at the kiosk to comment on "Only use a yellow Cab" 4. Council is eager for campaign $$$$$$. George buys is votes!

  6. Now 4:24 is on to something. I cant't count the fundraisers for city council members and the Mayor that Bill George has been a host of here lately. Money talks and minorities walk. Literally. Check out their campaign contributions and I bet you will see Mr French all over them.

  7. I am amazed people are starting to get it, now that you got it are you going to post on a blog or start doing something to get changes and bust an obvious monopoly in your city? That would be the question.

  9. My peasant peeps, listen up! I am the MOB and I do own the monopolyy in Kansas City as far as transportation goes, I worked hard to get my monopoly where it is today and it has cost me a bit of money to get there, but when you have a bit of money you can do what ever you want...get yourself a bit of money and then go get what you want.

  10. The guys name is Jim Ready?- Jim Ready to suck a cock? What a joke for that poor bastard to have a name like that in a position such as his, I bet he bent over and was ready for the Mayor to shove dick in his ass when he got the job - Go Jim! Sorry Uber and Lyft he has an agenda and he will protect it.

  11. I began my taxi days with Yellow Cab, but left out of disgust at their unscrupulous practices. Now, for twelve years, I've been with a local company owned by people who've been in the taxi business all their lives.

During the years, I've seen one hotel after another fall prey to the Yellow exclusives and close their doors to me and all other non-yellow drivers.

If the local ordinances can't fix this, doesn't the U.S. Constitution prohibit discrimination based on color?!

I've lived in Kansas City 45 years, and lived all my life within fifty miles, and I'm one of the best good-will ambassadors visitors could find, yet I'm being denied access because I'm not yellow!

Despite the company claims. exclusives do nothing to improve service -- only individual drivers can accomplish that.

I see them on the streets all the time. Yellow drivers are just as good and just as questionable as any other company's.

  13. oh that will happen! It would have sooner but it takes a minuet for their brain to work, when it does they will end up in court which is no big deal because they have lunch together...KC has a history of corruption, which is why the police department is run by the state. I have nothing against the police in KC. I stood up and applauded the the cop that shot and killed a thug who happened to be a KCFD fire fighter, that was one incident that fire couldnt sweep under the rug. If I were a dentist I might hit on his widow. If I were a tax payer in KC if I lived there I wouldnt put up with half the shit you MORONS do!

  14. 12:27 if only your passion for a city you dont even live in had the same interest.

  15. Passion = Power, plain and simple, but tax payers in KC have passion for sitting on their ass!!! Hey dumb fucks, quit bitching about what you dont like in your city, recruit everyone you know on your facebook and twitter and what ever other social media tool you have at your disposal to make a change and a difference! I bet you work all day for the man and in your spare time you could care less...how productive is that?
