SHOCK!!! KANSAS CITY JOURNALISM DEAD!!! STAR BIZ NEWSIE KEVIN COLLISON WISELY SELLS OUT TO BURNS & MAC!!!

Kansas City journalism navel gazing isn't as important as old school newsies would like to believe . . . Most people don't care about the "sausage making" that goes into the creating the news which is mostly gleaned from pressers, gossip, boring public meetings and the Internets anyhoo.

But here's something worthwhile . . .

KANSAS CITY STAR BIZ NEWSIE KEVIN COLLISON IS CALLING IT QUITS AND THE STAR AND MOVING TO CORPORATE JUGGERNAUT BURNS & MAC!!!

Yes, everybody is going to take credit for reporting this story . . . It was on Twitter first without all of the eloquent explanation . . .

Reader comment:

"TKC, Kevin Collison is leaving the Star and going to Burns & Mac. The real story should be here goes Burns & Mac again, muzzling any independent observer of their continued domination of City Hall. "

  1. Can't blame the guy for being smart.

    Not at all.

  2. Joining the fabulous 50 who are going to force the streetcar boondoggle down citizens throats or up their asses. One or the other.

  3. Kevin's a decent guy and a good reporter. Sort of the anti-Tony.

    Mr. Tony,
Mr. Collision will hit the ground running in his newish gig. He has seven years of this type of work behind him. He is a great eco-devo cheerleader. Maybe he can get Circo to intern with him as the both continue the smoke and mirrors show.

  5. Collison was never an independent observer. He supported every taxpayer funded project that came up. So much so that I always thought he was already on some other payroll.

  6. Turns out you were right!

  7. Kevin is great, good for him.

  8. Ever notice how our other major engineering firm, Black & Veatch, just goes along, minds its own business, and stays away from KC politics?

  9. Collison has been carrying water for Burn and Mac and the streetcar with articles that he's written in the Star for months now.
But the Star in its present form isn't long for this world and serious reporters are either leaving or being let go and being replaced by recent grads who will believe and report pretty much anything they're told.
That doesn't excuse Horsley who does the same thing after all the years of reporting on city hall, but maybe she can mentor the newbies.
There's certainly not any serious oversight of the antics at 12th and Oak in the Star.
Maybe Burns and Mac should just buy the Star and appoint their folks to the council. Cut out the middleman.

  10. Interesting development, as I recall on one of his last appearances on KC Week In Review he was lamenting the hefty incomes for Burns and Mc new hires versus newspaper salaries!! He was probably in talks at the time!

Smart move for him. And another jumps from the sinking ship known as S.S. Dinosaur Media.

  11. Inside word is he's fucking sick of Yaels influence on the Ed. Board.

  12. New job? He's been working for Burns and Mac for a while now, as evident in his writing for The Star

  14. Russ Johnson tweeted the local media has only reported negativity about streetcar for three years. I laughed and pointed it the Kevin Collison and Yael have only written glowing stories since streetcar was in it's infancy.

Normally, people dont respond to my tweets, but in this case, Yael and Kevin got defensive. Granted, Yael has been a little more skeptical about funding the streetcar ever since Crosby Kemper III schooled him on Ruckus, but there's no doubt he still wants the streetcar.

Kevin rt'd an article he'd written titled "streetcar supporters overstate it's benefit," but by the second paragraph, he's already celebrating rail transit and then only interviews supporters who seek to debunk the premise of the article. No skepticism or opposition was actually published aside from the title.

    And 9:55 is right, lol.
