In the aftermath of Jackson County Legislator Bishop Tindall's resignation, it's important for local voters to know that there's an EPIC STRUGGLE for control of the open seat.

Already, Freedom, Inc. has offered their enthusiastic endorsement to Alfred Jordan, a prominent and young local attorney at a major Kansas City law firm.

However, there's another contender making a name for himself with a surprisingly earnest grassroots campaign.

To wit . . .

STERLING BROWN CONTENDS THAT HE CAN BEAT FREEDOM, INC. IN THEIR OWN BACK YARD!!!

It's a bold statement but this longtime union organizer brings a more than a bit of enthusiasm to the upcoming election.

"I'm not shy about my passion for representing people and empowering voters in my district," Mr. Brown said. "I'm running a campaign that includes a significant amount of focus on voter education. People need to know the function of County Government and right now they don't. I want to explain how the County can work as a bridge between City Hall and Jefferson City."

Mr. Brown touts his versatility over his opponents . . .

"I'm somebody who is comfortable talking to constituents in whatever context is most appropriate, I can go from political or union meetings to the barbershop. And right now, that's what's needed from the County, not another insider who doesn't relate to the community," Mr. Brown said.

Campaign talking points aside . . .

THE JACKSON COUNTY 2ND DISTRICT ELECTION MIGHT JUST SHAPE UP INTO A UNION VS. FREEDOM INC. & BLACK CLERGY BRAWL!!!

Former legislator Ron Finley reportedly dropped out of the race because the Freedom endorsement and the support of the Revs. for Mr. Jordan was simply too much to overcome.

However, Mr. Brown and his team believe that demographic shifts in the 2nd District along with a focus on a ground game and "waking the district" will serve as a key to victory.

Now, this might come out in the comments but we want readers to know that out TKC blog community already knows and this post is merely a preview to a campaign that has the potential to turn EXTREMELY CONTENTIOUS.

- The Jackson County District 2 Campaign Could Get Personal ... Sterling Brown is a longtime denizen of East Side politics and he has more than a few personal ties with his opposition.

- This is bit of rebellion against Freedom, Inc. is surprising given that the political action committee has been on a roll as of late and have returned to their position as the dominant political power broker in Kansas City's urban core.

- Union support vs. Clergy Vs. Freedom just sounds fun . . .

To be fair, we were lucky enough to talk to FREEDOM, INC. insiders and they're a bit more skeptical about Mr. Brown's chances . . . They tell us:

"If Sterling Brown wins the 2nd District, we'll turn in our charter."

Again, that's another bold statement but maybe a hint that personalities and politics might collide in this contest to assume power in the aftermath of a legislative powerhouse stepping down.
