The Mayor is quickly building a list of opponents who don't buy into the power of his personal charisma. More often than not, Kansas City voters are seeing the Mayor on the wrong side of important issues."

Local political contenders are judging how much they want/need to kiss the Mayor's ring in order to get into office and some behind the scenes data reveals that a bit of distance might be a good idea for more skilled contenders.

TKC, I am a streetcar supporter but I don't agree with the Mayor or Russ on the airport. That might be a bit of a statistical anomaly but I would guess that there are many people who feel that way.

ReplyDeleteAll during Funkhouser's reign Mike Sanders looked like a genius because Mark and that beast he bred with were such train wrecks.
Now Sly benefits from one screw up after by Sanders.
Let's look at the Sanders record. Fucked up assessments, Spunk-gate, sexual harassment settlements, open warfare on staff resulting in former employees going to work for nearby jurisdictions and talking their heads off. And one of the things they are talking about is the little reported control that Georgia Sanders wields over JaxCo business, which is far more intrusive than the Squid ever tried.
As long as this continues, Sly will look good to most voters who only pay attention to the really ugly stuff, like crony appointments of extended family ending in resignations over ethics violations, and yes the upcoming switch to the Republican Party.
Sanders has always been a fuck up, but it was not as noticeable with the Funkhouser-Freak Show in town, but now it is all too obvious.
Once I heard he opened for Jefferson Airplane I knew we were in trouble.

Sly may not be that popular but he will have hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from those feeding at the trough. Anyone running against him as a candidate for the average citizen will get zero. Add to that any other candidate will be savaged by the media and will have profession PR firms hired to slam them. Any candidate who opposes crony capitalism, union thugs and the non profit grifters doesn't have a chance.

ReplyDeleteSly does make much better thought out staff decisions. By doing so, he appears in control and no one wants to take a chance opposing him.

By contrast, Sanders is always trying to hit home runs, so more often than not he goes back to the dugout and waits for his next at bat. When Sanders whiffs, it looks ugly and unbalanced.
Sanders is still the obnoxious little boy who runs around in circles trying to call attention to himself, who cannot realize that he is just annoying all the adults in the room.

Mandate schools to do preschool, and also free parental education for job retraining and review to catch up on what they failed to teach earlier.
Why isn't the mayor trying some innovative stuff beyond making developers rich? A new airport and hotel complex? Wrong solutions to an easily identifiable problem.
Sly? Just what do you want to fix about KC? The Chamber didn't elect you... a community desperately needing leadership did.

ReplyDeleteFrom the very beginning, Sly was little more than an empty suit and a cheerleader for whatever swells supported him and whatever crap lawyers and slick salesmen could unload on him, and the taxpayers just picked up the bill.
ReplyDeleteBut after all the fluff of big-time promises, now the reality is setting in as to just how screwed up the city's priorities are, who really benefits financially from all the rah rah, how poorly these big promises are turning out, and most of all, how much this really all costs.
But Sly is fine politically, because folks in KCMO gave up on city hall a very long time ago and regardless of any polling numbers, Sly needs only 50.1% of the turnout in the election, and the turnout gets lower all the time. Remeber, he was elected with only 21% of the registered KCMO voters the first time around.
So grab your ankles, KCMO. It's going to be a very long five more years.
