Lesson In Kansas City Real Estate: More Deets On UMKC Kangaroo Downtown Campus Deal

Here's a better report on Monday's upcoming Downtown Kansas City announcement that the loop is going to resemble an artsy college campus.

UMKC Conservatory Stakes Its Claim In The Crossroads

Money line . . .

"UMKC officials on Monday morning are scheduled to announce they have received a pledge from an anonymous group of donors to purchase a full city block in the Crossroads Arts District along Broadway Street between 17th and 18th Streets, directly south of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts."

Of course this will be trumpeted like it's the second coming if only because this town has failed to encourage real jobs or development that isn't taxpayer subsidized.

More in a bit . . .

  1. Pushing UMKC as an art school is a complete waste of time and money and completely against why the school exists.

You called this one like it is. That's the sho-nuf truth. There is no development in Kansas City proper that isn't partially or fully funded by taxpayers. Real estate renaissance my butt. Same tired sham that's been going on since Sly took office.

  3. I don't think I have ever encountered a more negative, toxic group of complainers anywhere.

Find a place where you are happy, and then, go there.

  4. Well put 7:13. Tony...I love your blog but this is a terrific development for downtown as well as UMKC. Oh wait....people are only supposed to complain about stuff on this site...apologies.

  5. UMKC Campus does kinda' suck. We know Kaufman put the money down for the property.

  6. Fuck those art school pricks. Bloch bought UMKC fair and square, they need to go over to KCAI and mess around with their pottery wheels.

The U is for preprofessional kids in pharmacy, business, medicine or law. Deal with it ya basket weavers.

  7. Bet the staff is not pleased. Should have relocated to JoCo. No earnings tax and free parking.

  8. 1. There's no development anywhere, especially joco, that is it subsidized. Joco is nationally famous for corporate aubade for EVERYTHING that gets built there, almost all of which fail...

    2. It's the University of KANSAS CITY MISSOURI you fucking nitwit, it can't go to joco, because that's in a different state. I know you morons don't learn geography in school because of "agenda 21" and also because people would lean how easy it is to leave kansas, but that, as they say in actual America, is just science...

And nobody want to work in joco. People hate it. It's lifeless and boring. There's no where to go, nothing to do and it's about 25 years behind the rest if the country. It's not even the kind of suburb suburban people want anymore. It's like a time warp to 1989. That's why they have to pay businesses to relocate there, where they can still enjoy living near KC MO, without which joco would look exactly like butler county, kansas.

  9. Will Crossroads Hysteria ever end?
UMKC can't afford such a lame idea.

  10. Turns out UMKC will never own this land. The so called "Block 4" owns it, will lease to UMKC, donate back the rent, minus some uh, "operating expenses".
