Kansas City Newsie Dave Helling Laments Red State Blues With Rachel Maddow

It's always interesting when two guys with strong opinions engage in a scintillating political conversation.

To wit . . .

While everybody else was watching Modern Family or the Internets . . .

Dave Helling took time to chat with Rachel Maddow.

Right’s anti-tax dream an economic nightmare

Take a look:

A brief description

"Dave Helling, columnist for the Kansas City Star, talks with Rachel Maddow about the economic damage inflicted on the state of Kansas by radical tax cuts following a right-wing takeover of the state government and similarities to developments in Missouri."

H/T To Radioman who saw this first and credit where it's due . . . Maddow's show is rising in the ratings among late night political chat shows and frankly, with the kind of straight forward talk and honest analysis that I noticed on this program that attempted to make Rex Sinquefield interesting. I think this Maddow guy has a great career ahead of him in TV.

Developing . . .

Comments

  1. Even President Obama makes fun of MSNBC's ratings. There is not a bigger echo chamber or a greater collection of shills in media. They argue over who supports the president more and seldom provide counter views. They make Fox look balanced. It would be like if Fox only had Sean Hannity as a host. At least Fix understands you can only have so many douchebags on air. MSNBC seems to strive for the most. Besides, MSNBC does not have any Hispanic hosts. I figured TKC cannot get around single issue politics.

  2. Helling is a classic underachiever in the sense that he has all of the tools to be a solid journalist and instead reduces himself time and time again to being nothing but a cheal ideological shill. What a waste.

  4. No problem, but I'll take credit for telling you about it. You credit so MANY of your sources, why not me?

  5. And the Helling critic in here? What's YOUR beef, bud? Be way more specific. My view is never to DISS people who dig up stuff that brings you closer to TRUTH, whether you like it or not.

So what has Helling reported that you DON'T like... and what has he reported that you DON'T want publicized as TRUTH?

I can't wait to hear your response!

  7. Can you believe they pay people $7 million to sit at a desk an spew bullshit. Damn our priorities are screwed up.

  8. The Internet and cable television have allowed various political and corporate interests to spread disinformation on a scale that was not possible before, but to have it believed requires a badly educated population unaccustomed to verifying things they are being told.

  10. Rachel Maddow (41-year old East Coast LIBERAL DYKE whose biggest claim to fame is that she's a LESBIAN) gets herself all hot and bothered, with panties in a serious bind, going on a good 15-20 minute non-stop rant over Missouri's Rex Sinquefield and Kansas Gov. Brownback.

Maddow doesn't give a shit about MO or KS, and obviously only did this segment because someone else (national Democratic Party) was pushing it.

Dave Helling, while making a good appearance, made a grievous journalistic mistake in appearing on this program, as he tacitly supports all the Maddow diatribe which was delivered in the run-up to his clip. One of Mr. Helling's strengths has been his routine of delivering the facts without inserting his own political bias into the story. It would seem that the opportunity to appear on a national program got the better of his impartial judgment.

There's a reason why Rachel Maddow was born on April Fools Day!

  13. Mutual Appreciation Society for knee-jerk liberals, watched by about 250. The lack of any appearance of objectivity is why MSNBC doesn't get better ratings.

This article on TKC probably had more viewers than Rachel's show (???).

  14. Criticism galore. Not one single opinion offered about the disastrous tax cuts enacted by the Missouri republicans + 1 democrat.
How long until the revenue dwindles down to $0?
How long until Missouri's perfect credit rating is downgraded?
    I say not too long.
What say any of you critics posting/posing on this thread?

  15. Dave "Shortbus" Helling, Rachel Madcow, and Radiotwit KC can go fuck themselves, and each other, in the ass with a mesquite cactus.

Then maybe, just MAYBE, all of their howling will warrant some tiny bit of attention.

    "disastrous tax cuts"??????

I STRONGLY urge you to send additional money, which you've presumably earned through your labor, to Jefferson City and Washington,D.C.

You no doubt believe that these politicians are looking out for your best interests and are extremely prudent and wise in disbursing the funds collected through taxation. After you've voluntarily fleeced yourself, please return to the flock and shut the hell up, we'll let you know when we're ready for lambchops!!!!

  17. Rachel and Dave are both lesbian negroes. I read it here first. Oh, and socialists, of course.

Outsiders reading the comments on this blog can only conclude Missouri and Kansas are populated mostly by escapees from funny farms. And they may be right.

  21. I bet Rex Sinquefield is sorry for making that KKK reference. The American Renaissance Movement is attempting to separate itself from the KKK. Is anyone really surprised the American Renaissance movement is based out of St. Louis? A guy like Sinquefield could run his friend David Duke for Governor.

  26. What really frosts my ass is that Comcast bought NBC, the entire collection of its failing networks and then raised my cable bill. I guess that is consistent with Comcast's commitment of providing it's customers the largest assortment of channels broadcasting pure "D" shit in the nation.

  27. Rachel Madcow, I like the cut of HIS jib.

What is her view on unsolicited bulk email? I guess she would like those selling dildos.

  28. You twits give T a bad name...for he'd rather peeps think of his blog as trendy, newzy, and attracting a better crowd.

Actually he DOES. All the media and lots of politicos read him more than once a day. I check him so I don't have to bother with mindless teevee news.

But you turds who have nothing useful to say are the minority who apparently need to post to feel important. So sad.

I wish Tony would just delete the nonsense and then you'd all either shut up or go away. I do like reading the comments... often more than the wordy original stories he writes. But comments are like panning for gold. Ya have to to through a lot of rocks and mud to find a nugget.

Most of you are just mud and you know it. Why waste our time if you don't know shit? Do you REALLY get off saying virtually nothing?

Helling's just fine...always has been and I've known that since long before he showed up in THIS market. Trashing him just shows your petty ignorance.

Moving right along.... for those who watch FOX to get news. Well Fox is mostly good for just showing what the right wingers are hearing. Not to be confused with truth.

MSNBC serves a purpose... its a counter-net to Fox. Just as liberal as Fox is conservative. If you pan one, you should pan the other. Maddow's quality unlike her counterparts on Fox. If you don't know that, then you've drunk, I say DRUNK, too much right wing Koolaid.

Just know NEITHER NETWORK focuses on their side's weaknesses or failures. It's the OMISSIONS you need to watch the competitor for.

Eat your veggies which makes for a balanced diet. Don't diss either one. Just take it all in and be smarter for it. And after awhile, you'll figure out which side supports YOUR INTERESTS.

Then you'll tend to watch them more. Don't worry about ratings or who sleeps with whom. That's not why you watch cable news, is it?

Watch BOTH...and you'll get a pretty good handle on America's politics. Or in the case of FOX, at least America's propaganda. While not as popular, my view of MSNBC and their partisans, is that they are the SPOILER to Fox's right-leaning propaganda.

I didnt' see anything in Rachel's report about Missouri and Kansas politics that wasn't pretty truthful. Right or wrong is another matter. But it was pretty factual. And Helling managed, if nothing else, to validate Maddow's observations.

That's one reason why I watch her religiously. She's more ACCURATE than she is PARTISAN! The study of our local politics... which we all know something about, turned out to be pretty accurate for a network back in New York.

I tend to trust peeps like that. If she gets MY STATE pretty accurately, then she probably tells truth in OTHER states.

    Does that make sense?

  29. I know, dude. I hate all this OWNERSHIP crap. It was never about what corporations owned a media outlet back in my day. Owners didn't really hassle the journalists workng for them. Today, OWNERS make their peeps utter a POINT OF VIEW. That soooo sucks.
