KANSAS CITY LOSES 16K JOBS INSIDE THE LOOP OVER THE LAST DECADE: THERE IS NO DOWNTOWN RENAISSANCE!!!

The Star's Steve Paul proves he's clueless after his own paper reports an overall 20% decline and 16K jobs leaving Downtown Kansas City over the past 10 years: Slowly but unmistakably, downtown rises again

  1. When you are replacing tax-paying businesses with a wide range of levels of pay with tax-subsidized apartments occupied by $24K baristas and wannabee artists, you are not having a renaissance.
You are building a taxpayer-subsidized amusement park for 20-something year olds, who will age out, get actual lives, and move to the suburbs for the schools, safe neighborhoods, and yards for the kids.
You are living in a fantasyland.
And it's getting mighty expensive for taxpaying residents to bear.

  2. Once the Mensa boy memorial two-mile streetcar is operating EVERYONE will want to move downtown.

  3. It would appear that the wise TKC reader who said, "vote with your feet, move out of KCMO" has some like-minded followers.

  4. Except for the fact that downtown kcmo is the fastest growing place in the metro, the northland kcmo neighborhoods are the fastest growing suburbs and the river to waldo is stable (while inner ring suburbs in joco are shrinking). To say nothing of the fact that waldo, Westport and downtown are shit full of joco plates very weekend...

    Fact CHECK, moterfucker.

Guess people are overwhelmingly voting for kcmo with their feet.

  5. 7:26 is living in a 1980s fantasy land, but is too stupid to know it.

    "Replacing tax paying businesses"??

Haha. Try again, Sue. Replacing vacant buildings as surface parking lots. With real small businesses.

And bitching about susidies for dense development in blighted areas is rich...you suburban shills all turn a blind eye to the subsidies suburbs whore out constantly to build garbage developments in greenfields and farmland that "everybody wants to live in". Subsidies downtown and in the urban core are a drop in the bucket compared to suburban give aways.

Yup. They're saying it's a nice place to visit, but they wouldn't want to live here.

  9. 2:06, I'd tell you to take the weekend off but "internet lawyers" from
Brookside don't really have hours...those come with a job. Trust fund dispersements don't require clock punching, do they?

  10. 5:16: Interesting comment. Totally inaccurate, as usual, but interesting nevertheless.

  11. KC should up the available Taxi permits and quit fuckin with people trying to make a living. Oh wait, Bill wont allow new jobs in the transportation industry in KC metro as far as moving people are concerned.
