TKC NOTE: Take a look at this Kansas City compilation of buildings that should be/would be slated for the wrecking ball if white people who dabble in real estate didn't have a lot of free time on their hands.

  1. The fact that we were told Sprint Arena and Kemper could be co-managed effectively less than ten years ago should be at the front of people's minds the next time we are asked to approve economic development on a ballot.

We've also been making progress on Thacher. I am hopeful. Please join us for the Thacher-A-Thon on June 7.

  2. Midwest Hotel is too fare gone, not worth saving.

  3. At a time where the city's bond rate is dropping, I don't see any rehab projects in the works.

  4. I think we have enough rehabbed burned out buildings in the core. We need glass and steel moving upwards to the future, not another depressing remod of some flophouse.

  5. Actually, the Midwest Hotel would be perfect for a full renovation into apartments/lofts/live work artist space. Great structure, even better location. Perhaps 9:51 is the developer wanting to buy and tear it down. Must be about time to unite against those who want wipe away our history to put up another drive thru on a important DT street.

  8. Don't forget what they've done to the Wendell Phillips Neighborhood with that mess of a design called East Patrol.

  9. but 12:51 pm just because something is old doesnt make it historic. The midwest hotel is too small for anything other than maybe a few market rate apartments and the rehab costs are way too high.

It has always been a flophouse catering to salesmen and transients. In fact no less than 20 years ago lots of these flophouses still stuck around mostly for junkies to rent a room to spike up in.

Now you could bulldoze that space and build a nice 5 story place of market rate apartments and it would be more profitable, prettier, safer and greener than rehabbing a hundred year old no-tell-motel
