Roadway shooting investigation remains high priority

Police continue to place a high priority on the investigation of a pattern of recent roadway shootings around the Kansas City metropolitan area.

No new shooting incidents have taken place since April 6. Police are thoroughly investigating all reports of incidents that may be related and remind the public that a reward of up to $10,000 is available for information that leads to an arrest in the case.

Investigators from several local, state and federal law enforcement agencies continue to meet daily about the shooting pattern to discuss updates and share information and analysis.

Police announced last week that they have positively linked 12 shooting incidents that have taken place on roadways in Kansas City, Mo., Blue Springs, Lee’s Summit and Leawood. Three people have been hit with bullets, and their injuries were not life-threatening.

Investigators are still refraining from releasing any suspect or suspect vehicle information because they do not want to provide misinformation, nor do they want the public to focus too closely on a specific type of vehicle or person. Investigators do not want to rule out any possibilities.

Officers continue to provide an increased presence in the areas of the shootings. As always, motorists should remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity by calling 911. The sooner police are notified, the higher the probability they can apprehend the suspect(s).

The aforementioned reward of up to $10,000 is available for information leading to an arrest in this case, thanks to the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers, FBI and ATF. The TIPS Hotline has received 114 tips on the case as of noon Wednesday.

Anyone with information should call 816-474-TIPS (8477). Tips also may be submitted electronically at www.KCcrimestoppers.com, or by texting TIP452 and your information to 274637 (CRIMES). All information is anonymous.
