Kansas City: Lyft is operating illegally, citations will be issued

Deets . . .

Kansas City’s Regulated Industries Division informed the San Francisco-based transportation company that it is not in compliance with the city’s code of ordinances. A letter by Regulated Industries Manager Jim Ready, obtained through a public records request by the Kansas City Business Journal, said that the rideshare service is in violation of several ordinances concerning the use of third-party transportation applications, the soliciting and acceptance of passengers, and the assessment of fares.

“Based on the ordinances above, your company is not able to provide the service as described on your website,” Ready said in a letter addressed to a representative of Lyft.

And this is how a local NEAR MONOPOLY stays in charge of Kansas City. Sorry transit hipsters . . .

More in a bit . . .

  1. Tony, think about it. Any serial killer can operate one of these things. The deal was sealed long ago on this when KC approved those sticker for cabs.

  4. Seems like a legit program. Someone somewhere is not making money off it the way they want so they are putting the pressure on.

Please tell me those vehicles dont have those stupid hipster mustache decorations. What the hell is it with putting mustaches on your finger and holding it under your nose and posting photos on instagram of it? Good grief.

  5. KC will never have innovative ideas. We talk a lot about the "creative economy" and all kinds of Internet startups but look at this effort withering because our politicians don't want to look at new ideas.

  10. There have been articles mentioning the illegal pricing strategies of this program. Read Bloomberg business week...it is all in there....no one wants a ticket, and the insurance companies don't like it either. If someone gets hurt, it won't be called the show me state, it will be called the sue me state.

  11. Ih yeah we are real safe with a licensed taxi driver. One who will stretch a 30 minute drive from the airport to a 2 hour scenic rout 75 dollar tour for your incoming relatives. One who will make sure multiple concurrent fares always result in the con artist shuffle. One who weaves in and out of traffic, speeds, runs red lights and drives like a nut job. One who has more flim-flam add on baggage charges than United Airlines. Oh yeah those professionals getting free protection from the crooked ass city of KC
