Troost Fest is a wonderful occasion wherein guilty and "progressive" white people can make themselves feel better about all of their advantages. Also, I hear they have this really great grilled corn on the cob specialty.
However . . .
Our favorite aspect of Troost Fest is the fact that after dark the location of the celebration is magically transformed back into a ghost town as people beat it out of there for at least another year. Again, this is the difference betwixt PR leadership and/or real community development.

ReplyDeleteTroost is the DMZ of Kansas City. All us white liberals have tried to make believe that there is a chance to see it come back. It won't. Business can't survive. Watch how fast that new development at 47th and Troost dies. I'll give it 2 years...then a ghost town. Go north and it just gets worse. 31st and Troost is a waste land of empty storefronts and well intentioned non-profits where ghetto-ites line up for free stuff. About the only thing that works are the "Buy Here/Pay Here" Car lots selling the same 12 ratty cars over and over again. Put anything nice there, the hood rats will rob it, vandalize it, and drive them out of business. AND YES, it's a problem of Black Culture. Period. Just like the hoods on the Plaza. The fucking scared politically correct media doesn't have the balls to call it for what it is -- Black Teens with guns fucking things up. Bull doze Troost down...or put up a wall.
