Kansas City Trolley Run Tow Truck Rage

Here's a story that offers a bit of follow-up on Kansas City jogger inconvenience going the other way for once . . .

Towed driver incensed with city action during Trolley Run

Deets:

"There’s lingering frustration Monday after more than two-dozen cars got towed from the Country Club Plaza during last weekend’s Trolley Run. One of the car owners said neither she, nor her friends, were parked illegally. A police spokesman told FOX 4 they get these calls every year during the Trolley Run . . . “The city just made about $6,000, $7,000 in just one night,” she speculated.

A total of 25 cars were towed. A police spokesman said it had to be done to keep the parade route safe. He also said the city put the signs up 24 hours prior to the run."

Again . . .

IT'S ABOUT TIME THESE JOGGING RACISTS TAKE A HINT AND ALSO EXPERIENCE A BIT OF INCONVENIENCE BECAUSE OF THEIR PASTIME THAT BLOCKS SO MANY LOCAL STREETS!!!

And maybe, just maybe if there weren't so many races through local streets the parking situation would be easier to handle.

  1. You all were warned. It's right there in the Hipster Manifesto:

"If you live anywhere from downtown to 85th Street, we reserve the right to hold marathons in your neighborhoods on any and all given Saturdays we choose. You should plan to stay in your homes and off the streets when we hold these events. If you are so inconsiderate that you simply must get out on one of the Saturdays we have occupied your neighborhood, please plan to do so after we are finished with our marathons, as we will do everything possible to thwart any automobile traffic we see. If you object to our taking over your neighborhoods for a good cause, you are a whiner, a cheapskate, and probably an obese doughnut-eating anti-fitness freak, and you do not deserve to live anywhere, let alone in the pleasant neighborhoods we have decided to honor with our presence so frequently. If you’re Jewish and are trying to get to temple (we hear this excuse a lot—even from people who are probably not even Jewish), we’ll you’re not supposed to be operating machinery on the Sabbath anyway, so there. If you do not like this, you can always move or convert."

  2. These complainers need to understand that they live in a big big city now, with organic arugula, streetcars, artists, food trucks, and all kinds of other excitements that make being a 20-something making $23 grand as a barista's life worthwhile.
KCMO isn't for the people who actually own homes or businesses here anymore, except for the opportunities they all have to pay for all this stuff.
And if you don't like paying for a publicly-supported amusement park for millenials and hipsters, you should just move to those terrible suburbs north of the river.
And while you're at it, buy a bow tie.

  3. AIDSWalk had Main Street backed up for a long way on Saturday. I thought the police were supposed to let traffic through at certain intervals. Apparently not.

  4. It's just such a shame that Kansas City doesn't have thousands of acres of park land that could be used for the various runs and walks instead of shutting down so many streets every weekend. What a joke. My ego stroking hobbies don't infringe on thousands of other tax-paying citizens, why do theirs infringe on mine?

When you find a worthwhile cause, just go ahead and donate your money. There's really no need to tie your entertainment to your donations, while screwing your neighbors.

  5. # nothingtodowithstreetcars.

Losing is hard, guys. But it's what happens when you're wrong a lot.

  6. So why not hold these runs in Swope Park? Lots of wooded trails, a golf course and zoo...might even stumble across a body or three! And be sure to carry some folding money to "donate" to the natives. Would be a win win for all parties. Nothing like being chased by the local youths to drop your mile times.

  7. KCMO residents should not have to put up with the inconvenience of these runs every week.

  8. I strongly suggest the towed driver sue the city. It won't actually go to trial, you just need to legally threaten them and let them know you're serious.
Don't feel bad about suing KCMO, as it's a long-standing tradition. Recall that Mayor Sly is a personal injury attorney.

  9. Give me a break. Signs were up days in advance. Get yr beater cars off the street. A great cause and a great event for the Broomside/Waldo area. Anyone complaining about the Trolley run from Brookside/Waldo is in a very small minority. Communities/neighborhoods/towns would kill for an event like that.

  10. I guess that whore's walk of shame was a little longer on Sunday morning.

  11. Kansas City is great for the very rich and the only option for the very poor.

  12. 10:50 Please name the Communities/neighborhoods/towns that would kill for an event like that

  13. Some folk think roos (rules) don't apply to them

  14. 10:50 - I know for a fact that suburbs of this community on both sides of the state line are trying to develop runs that have the participation of the Trolley Run. Not sure if it makes sense to you but Chambers of Commerce, business owners, and people with pride in their community kind of like having thousands of people delivered to their doorstep. Not that they don't absolutely love a bunch cars parked on their streets Sunday mornings abandoned by drunks.

  15. Well, by all means let's share the wealth, 10:50. I'm close enough to the Trolley Run to hear their loudspeakers, and I'd love to see the thing (and most of the other runs that tie up the 'hood on the weekends) held elsewhere. I know it's for a good cause and all that, but really, why not just write a fucking check?

Why not hold some of these events in Mission Hills or Briarcliff? Let people see how the other 1% lives. I think one of the streetcar advocates has in-laws in Mission Hills. Maybe they could introduce him to someone who could help move a run or ten there.

  16. People in KCMO need to realize this sort of thing just comes with all the "culture and diversity" so many of them are proud of. They like to flaunt being the cultural heart of the metro, but they don't like the inconveniences that come along with it.
