We've done a bit of soul searching this morning.
No joke.
The tragic passing of a Kansas City Jazz singer has apparently entrusted the feelings and tender emotions of all Kansas City to this blog along our journey to serve as a fact check and forum for community discussion.
Here's some of the testimony sent the way of this blog that we haven't been sure how to deal with . . .
This kind of passive aggressive ultimatum got our attention:
"I just heard about the death of Dionne Jeroue. I worked with her once or twice last year, and found her to be a wonderful person. I did a google search to try to find out what happened. Your biog appeared as the FIRST listing in the search. There are several very insensitive postings that would be very hurtful to anyone close to her. Please take what steps you can, as soon as possible, to see that those around her are not burdened by this vulgarity."
Actually, thinking back I did meet Dionne and she seemed very nice, overly nice to this blogger who I think she might have mistaken for her drummer:
"TKC Just curious if you knew Dionne? If you didn't get the chance to know her .....she was probably one of the greatest people you would ever meet.....besides your mom, of course. I like reading your blog but I don't understand why you continue to let people speak so ill of the dead. Isn't there anything sacred? Apparently all the good light she put into the world is diminished to some of the low comments people put in without obviously having met her. It's just so cowardly."
And then there's this complimentary ask that came in last night:
"First of all, thank your for the website. It is amazing how you put forth so much insider news!
How can you get the gutter language stopped. It takes away from the message something fierce. I suppose if you required an email address, it would stop those filthy rants. Hope you can do something about it!"
Heretofore, with help from some of the best people in the Greater Kansas City area, we have championed an effort to maintain THE LAST REMAINING KANSAS CITY FREE SPEECH ZONE . . . But apparently, people don't really like or support free speech when it comes to something with which they might disagree.
And so . . .
TODAY WITH YOUR HELP WE ARE GOING TO ATTEMPT TO DEVISE NEW RULES FOR THIS KANSAS CITY FREE SPEECH ZONE THAT WILL SOON BE IMPLMENTED IN THE COMMENTS SECTION!!!
Together we can do this!!!
Here are our priorities for the new TKC comment section coming soon:
- To show respect, understanding and support for all of Kansas City!!!
- How can we encourage, motivate and positively reinforce our Kansas City community???
- Discourage hate speech, libel and defamation (slander is spoken you d-bags) and instead strive to uplift Kansas City with our written words.
Now we put it to you . . . Today we're going to devise these new rules and if it works out the comments policy will be changed. Let's see what you can come up with KC!!! Let's do this!!!
Some of the commenters are sick and stupid. But overall I think things are fine as is.
