It seems that everybody in Kansas City supports a crackdown on the Plaza.
There's a current move among the civic elite to make sure the curfew is year round.
Sadly, there are consequences for a crackdown that has obviously been targeted at African-American teens.

Fact noted by an embattled KC Council Dude: 87 percent of the teens cited between May and September of 2013 were black
We can debate the merits of these numbers all day . . .
However . . .
Like it or not, this kind of racial disparity has been historically frowned upon by the courts.

Are we now going to have to encourage white kids to go be assholes on the plaza just so we can also arrest the black ones who have been the issue so far?

ReplyDeleteThere won't be any lawsuit that goes anywhere. Racial Profiling is impossible to prove. They would have to show that an equal number of non-blacks were causing the same problems but not getting arrested.
