TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! BEHIND THE SCENES: KANSAS CITY INSIDERS USE CODE WORDS TO BLAME BROOKSIDE RACISM FOR THWARTING TOY TRAIN STREETCAR PHASE DEUX!!!

Mayor Sly, City Council and Toy Train streetcar advocates suffered an EPIC defeat when the streetcar was derailed and steered away from Brookside.

Now . . .

BEHIND THE SCENES TOY TRAIN ADVOCATES ARE CALLING OUT BROOKSIDE AND WALDO RACISM WINNING THE DAY AGAINST KC STREETCAR PHASE DEUX!!!

Recently TKC asked: "Doesn't this defeat look bad for Mayor Sly and Council? It seems like they folded the second they were faced with real neighborhood opposition."

Here's the reply and attack talking point in defense of the streetcar . . .

"This doesn't make the Mayor look bad, this makes Brookside look bad. They spread fear and told their supporters the streetcar would bring a 'bad element' to Brookside from Downtown. They might be talking taxes but it was really their racism that caused the change."

However, since Kansas City is exceptionally polite . . . We won't hear these arguments outright.

INSTEAD, KANSAS CITY POLITICOS AND PUNDITS ARE USING CODE WORDS LIKE NIMBY AND CAVE PEOPLE TO MAKE NOT-SO-SUBTLE ALLEGATIONS AIMED @ CALLING OUT BROOKSIDE AND WALDO RACISM!!!

Moreover . . .

In much the same way some claim that "thug" is the new n-word, terms like NIMBY and CAVE people are derogatory slurs used to racially attack mostly white property owners who opposed the high taxes that a toy train streetcar would have delivered to Brookside and Waldo.

Listen closely to this debate for terms like "exclusion" and "progressive" which attempt to win arguments for toy train advocates by employing divisive culture war language. Speaking as a Latino of a broke-ass enclave without any pull to attract the toy train, this bit of political theater is nearly as entertaining as a Punch and Judy show.

Meanwhile, an astute TKC reader wonders where City Hall will get the cash to finance the toy train streetcar.

"How are they going to get the necessary real estate tax dollars out of the East Side? I can't believe "Feel Good" & Co. weren't planning on subsidizing the economically stressed with Brookside and Waldo money."

Further down the line, it'll be interesting to see if the East side believes the hype about all of the cash that a streetcar will deliver their way . . . Because the only color that really matters is green.

Developing . . .

  1. TKC, you forgot to mention that ALL of KC is going to get taxed for the train eventually. We're all heading down the same track together.

  2. This play is right out of the Hipster Manifesto:

"While we condemn any overt discrimination against people of color, we don’t really want to have anything to do with them (unless they happen to be hipsters, like us), hence our aversion to buses and our unwillingness to cross Troost and certainly Prospect. It’s all good and well to talk equality, but really, people! We are, of course, willing to use racism as a tool against any and all of our opponents. If you don’t like marathons, streetcars, and higher taxes for things we want, you’re a racist, in other words. See how well that works? If you don’t like it, you can always move to some Ku Klux Klan enclave in Utah or wherever."

In truth the proposed streetcar route is the same route the buses already run. The issue is not racial. It's the economics, stupid. Or the stupid economics.

  3. While racism is alive and well, it's occurrence is over-reported. Unfortunately the citing of it has always been the weapon of choice of the intellectually lazy.

    ReplyDelete
  4. There is no way the blighted routes along Independence and Linwood have the property tax base to support this fiasco. It will just mean more blight because of higher taxes and abandoned buildings, for a Toy Train very, very few will use!

And you just made shopping in the lowest income neighborhoods more expensive.

Where are the voices os sanity in this mess?

    ReplyDelete
  5. The trains will be a billion dollar fiasco before this is done.. Yep, I said Billion.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Use the real word, nigger! Brookside doesn't want a bunch of fucking niggers and nobody else does either. That, is a simple fact!!!

    ReplyDelete
  7. I love how the mayors staff put a racial spin on this, it's an outdated mode of transportation, cost way to much and destroys existing infrastructure that makes these neighborhood so special. Sly needs to focus on basic services. But he won't cause he's catering to BiG business.

  8. I'll tell you what's racist...TKC

  9. I got called a caveman by a jungle bunny!
    Im okay with that.

    ReplyDelete
  10. This is going to cost a fortune and there will not be money to pay for it. This is a known fact since it all began. There are a lot of Brooksiders who actually ride the bus--drive down Wornall any morning and you will see. The bus is an affordable system to build and maintain. The streetcar is not.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Let's say it like it is...Brookside/Waldo don't want Niggers in their neighborhood. Good for them!!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. And, 9:33, the bus is a reality. The streetcar is not.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Racism and the toy train is BS. If troublemakers want to come to Brookside/Waldo they can easily take the bus, cab or steal a car. Lewie Duiguid will soon write a column that the toy train was defeated because Brookside/Waldo people were imagining Faniqua Felony standing around 27th an Prospect saying to his homies, "ya'll just wait till 2016 when we can take the street car to Brookside and get sum a dat stuff".

    ReplyDelete
  14. Even the NOLA streetcar runs empty 90% of the time, people. This is a huge dumb idea.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Burns and Mac don't design curbs and sidewalks, so we need a streetcar.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Typical stupid black Kansas City. If you disagree with a black agenda you are reacist. If a black disagrees w3ith you....you are a racist. Of only the rest of us were that fucking stupid

    ReplyDelete
  17. I don't think this was a black agenda. It was probably more like a grease-my-palms agenda, and the folks whose palms won't be greased are now saying they lost their get-rich-off-the-taxpayer scheme because of racism.

It will be interesting to see if they make the same claim when the airport fiasco goes down in flames.

    ReplyDelete
  18. If mass transit is soooo incredibly needed and wanted, why are the buses mostly empty?

  20. I like watching liberals eat their own. That neighborhood is insufferable. They think they are Sunset Hills but they are more like Red Bridge.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I just hope all the boohooers in KCMO that call JoCo racist are reading this article. See, no one wants the colored element in their neighborhoods, even the self-proclaimed "liberals" in BKS/Waldo.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Brookside opposition is based on economics and need for transparency from city hall, which should be a course followed by the property owners / voters for the new route. Brookside refused to be dictated by Mayor Sly and potential next mayor Russ Johnson. They asked hard questions and the "emperor had no clothes" and provided no good answers! Brookside did the right thing --- wake up KC!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. You should hear all the meaningless babble going on at the transportation committee meeting today.

    ReplyDelete
  24. 10:12 & 10:18 (Same disappointed hipster streetcar boondoggler) might want to come visit the area sometime. You'll find we have many black and Hispanic people here. We're more than happy not to be Sunset Hills, and some of our best friends live in Red Bridge.

    ReplyDelete
  25. It's wrong to call people names just cause you disagree with them. Someone should tell that to the "hipsters", "renters", "paid consultants", "boondogglers", "boohooers", and "libtards" who disagree with me!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Let's keep in mind also that the mayor himself coined the term "idiots with guns".

Maybe Brooksiders see what has happened in the Plaza, had kids at the zoo on the free day, and are in agreement with the Mayor. They don't like having "idiots with guns" running around. But unlike the mayor they don't see the value in giving away yet another "free" resource to "idiots with guns" and have decided to be proactive. After all, the mayor still hasn't really done anything to deal "idiots with guns" in the city and still insists on providing "free" things that seem to attract "idiots with guns".

Rather than throwing money at something they don't want or need, most rational Brooksiders see more value in spending money in economical ways for everyone's interests and quality of life not just a few renter hipsters wanting a cheap ride to the breweries of Waldo (wonder why the hipster breweries haven't spurred economic development by opening east of Troost?).

Chief Forte' sure could us some of that dream money.

  30. It should amaze KCMO residents that as soon as the whole streetcar scam encountered some wll-informed thoughtful residents who asked seriour questions, the whole transit/density mantra began to unravel.
If you surround yourself with like-minded people who never question whatever is put in front of them, you begin to actually believe all the hype, even when the rationales change almost daily.
And it helps to have no particular commitment to your neighborhood, own any property or have much income that's going to be taxed to support a toy, or have any idea or responsiblity for all the other activities of city government that residents actually depend on.
But where's the adult supervision at city hall?

  31. Larchmont Haverkamp III3/27/14, 12:08 PM

Kudos to Brookside and Waldo for trying to keep nigger culture out of their neighborhoods. And no, I don't mean blacks, I mean the nigger portion of them that fuck up everything good about this fair city.

  32. Jesus, if Russ Johnson is the next Mayor, I'm a Japanese fighter pilot and no, I'm definitely NOT a Japanese fighter pilot....

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thanks for the invite, 10:52, but I'll pass. A mediocre neighborhood with delusions of greatness with a few bars, shops and restaurants isn't my idea of urban utopia.

    ReplyDelete
  34. People who don't live in the area come to the area all the time. They can ride the bus. To link racism to a streetcar is absurd. Take a look at Southwest High School. I am not saying there is not racism--there is. But it is not connected to the streetcar.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Bottom line is as the Streetcar Promoters bubble bursts and the facade crumbles the fan boys like David Johnson will get desperate and say anything to make anyone look bad.

    ReplyDelete
  36. There is plenty of racism in Kansas City. It is part of the city's heritage in many ways--unfortunately. However, the distaste for the streetcar line in Brookside and Waldo is primarily, if not totally, based on concerns that have nothing to do with racism.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Tony, do you WANT to start a race war? We have to learn how to live with each other!

What happened to the dream? We need to show respect for all people and not hate for those with whom we disagree. It's time for more civility in KCMO.

    ReplyDelete
  38. All they're doing is tweeting the same old superficial short sighted shit they always have.

Oh look at the pretty colors! Look at all the happy people riding the toy train in this simulation!

    ReplyDelete
  39. It will bring a bad element to brookside; worse than the elements already there. No doubt there. Tell Clinton Adams to get a life. This racial crap is getting old, dude. Try decaf next time.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Holy crap - someone needs to inquire about this. I just heard some quiet rumblings about a longterm plan for a streetcar or light rail going down the center of Ward Parkway? Are you flipping kidding me?

I know it's for tourists, but seriously, can we draw the line at not tearing apart major, beautiful and historic boulevards? If this is true, I'd strongly recommend that citizens get ahead of this one and tell city leaders: NO DESTRUCTION OF WARD PARKWAY!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Potential next Mayor... Russ Johnson?!?! I just threw up a little in my mouth. That is hilarious. And hilariously insane.

  43. Dr. Paul Stevens3/27/14, 3:09 PM

KCMO is, without a doubt, the stupidest city on the face of the earth. The rank and file DO NOT want these stupid streetcars, and they DO NOT want a new KCI terminal. But, hey, what difference does that make?

    ReplyDelete
  44. As long as there are niggers, there will be racism. Therefore, the logical answer would be to dispense with niggers. Makes sense to me and millions of us but they just won't say it.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Waldo Brooksider III,3/27/14, 4:01 PM

When the troupe of Negros attacked the Bear at Swoope Park Golf Links, Waldo and Brookside residents rebelled against the Negro and the Toy Train. It won't happen. The Polar Bear has strong support in this meca of white power.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Holy flipping crapola!!!!!!!

I jus heard a rumor that I made up that they are gonna run streetcars right through your - YES YOUR -- daughter's bedroom!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You gotta be flipping j/k-ing me, yalls!!!!

Streetcar supporters will see your daughter naked in her bedroom and THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT!!!!!

check our facebooks for more info...

    ReplyDelete
  47. Saying Brookside and Waldo is racist is the stupidest argument I've heard yet from the pro-streetcar crowd. The anti-streetcar people in Brookside were all clamoring for MORE BUSES! More buses to and from Brookside to go to and from all over, east, west, north, south. This was most certainly not about black/white fear. It was all about economics, and not paying nearly a billion dollars for an antiquated transit system when we can move people better and faster with buses.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Nimby, nimby, nimby... nobody ever utters a word about the destruction that happens East of Troost. We've watched Ivanhoe implode, Beacon Hill but somewhat recovering, Citadel imploded with contamination, Wendell Phillips imploded and is about to install a police fort there while claiming police brutality, Washington Wheatley imploded and Vineyard is on a slippery slope to nowhere and the list goes on and on. Just about any ponze scheme will do when its East of Troost. The voices of the poeple were never heard. Why are people still moving to Kansas City... it's not the streetcar.

    ReplyDelete
  49. 4:32: You have a good point. The reason Brookside and Waldo sometimes get what we want is we get in people's faces and let them know when they've gone too far. The people east of Troost need to do the same thing. There are some nice new homes being built in Beacon Hill (a little to JOCO-like for my taste), but Citadel was a crime without punishment. Get your leaders to represent you.

  52. Kansas City is going to get the street car, the new airport and bankrupt. Sly James and his cronies will get rich and the niggers will take over Kansas City and it will become an urban wasteland. That is the future, GET USED TO IT and it all happen because white people are selfish and greedy and don't care. HORSE FUCKING SHIT!

    ReplyDelete

  53. $500 MILLION dollars for an experiment. Downtown streetcar line is not even built. Won't run till 2015.

If public transportation is the goal here, why are the buses empty?

Getting our share of Federal money is understandable. However, in this instance, with public transportation running empty in so many parts of this city, I wonder why we NEED to tear up our streets, destroy historic areas, take on the huge liability for streetcars, if we
haven't proven that the public wants public transportation AND the public uses it. As poorly as we utilize what we have, there is no way we deserve any additional assistance from the Feds. I am not riding the bus today. I will use my car. Not right, but it's the way it is.

    Just an opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  54. REMEMBER the real enemy is those who run for office and then give us what they can make money or prestige off of building.
Read through this list and pick out the culprits.
Glover, Marcason, Russ Johnson, Jermaine Reed, john Sharp, Cindy Circo, Melba Curls, Davis.
Who are the culprits? You got it do not vote for them for council or Mayor.

  55. The Code Word that works is NO.

    ReplyDelete

  56. The public will not vote for more spending. It's a done deal. Not happening. Move on. Kansas City citizens are tired of pay, pay, pay. We are nearly the highest taxed area in the nation.

Won't happen. On every item on the ballot, we will all vote NO.
NO, and hell no. The City scammed the city into that downtown mess with 314 renters getting a $250 mil. plaything.

There will be no extension. Period. They jammed the downtown street car down our throats and didn't say please. We will show them in August. Take that. Get the vote out supporters. Work your tails off. It won't happen. So many more of us that say we want NO more TAXES. NO MORE TAXES. NO more spending money the city doesn't have. City leaders: GROW UP.
