NEWSFLASH!!! DEAD TREE MEDIA AND POLITICOS KNOW MORE ABOUT THE AIRPORT THAN ANYBODY ELSE!!!

I was tempted to let this one pass but it was too silly to skip over . . .

Yael: Don’t let Southwest Airlines tell us how to rebuild KCI

And I guess why I wanted to pick this up is because it proves that Dead Tree Media is outdated in every conceivable way . . .

The sentiment from this column reminds us of the long lost Mayor Kay Barnes era in Kansas City when she convinced this town to buy an empty $300 MILLION arena just because STL didn't think it was a good idea. The appeal to hometown pride is an old school trick that's probably won't work on this 2 BILLION DOLLAR big deal.

Even worse . . .

IF KANSAS CITY SHOULDN'T TAKE ADVICE FROM AIRLINES, THEN POLITICOS AND NEWSPAPER DUDES ARE SUPPOSED TO KNOW BETTER?!?!

Either way . . .

The only thing is clear is that ALMOST NOBODY is listening to the voting public which has been resoundingly skeptical and sought to VOTE on the matter before any big decisions are final.

  1. If Southwest Airlines wants the airport a certain way, let them pay for it. It is THE Fucking scumbag airlines that ruined air travel.

  2. Really? Ruined? I never have a problem.

Yael is right, our good-for-noting politicos are FAR more knowledgeable about airline industry related facilities than the airlines.

  5. Airlines will come and go but the city will be here, as will its residents.

The Star explained Sunday how TWA dictated how KCI should be built.

    Where is TWA now?

    Single terminal, please.

  6. Lisping Fael is actually right.

The airport should be constructed with the needs of the air travelers of kansas city with the goal of maximum convenience. Making the TSA happy (with 1 security line) or making southwest happy (by eliminating their preferential placement in-gate) shouldn't be relevant.

I bet that every person who voted in favor of tearing down the airport and rebuilding one gigantic terminal has or is connected to some one with a financial tie to the project. Another try by the ruling class to rape the citizens :(

We are counting on you, Tony, King Of All Bloggers, to stop this from happening.

In the old days, we would have sought assistance from Yael Abouhalkah but he is currently only interested in keeping his job at the expense of every other salaried employee of the Star.

What say ye, Yael T. Abouhalkah, the forner Lion Of The Press? Talk to us Yael... We need the old Yael back! Come back old Yael :(

Memo to Anon 712AM... Listen up you feckless cretin... The only people who are going to be paying for this are the people that fly and the hapless local citizens who are about to get bent over a chair.

No matter what happens, if Southwest can generate enough revenue to make a profit, they are out of here. Have you not noticed that, whereas the municipal plundering class has in mind for some new colossal airport, the current facility is not being fully used.

Memo to Tony... Why dont you ask that question? If the current airport is overbuilt, why build another facility in stead of just upgrading the parts of the airport that are currently used. And if by some miracle if G-d, we ever need more terminal space, they can upgrade and reopen the unused terminal. Wouldn't that be cheaper and make more sense? And with all due respect to the clowns who want more and fancier stores/restaurants, if Ruth Chris cant make it on the Plaza, what upscale tenants do they think will be flocking to the airport, however it is rebuilt or reconfigured?

  10. TWA = Amercian. Unions destroyed KCI maintenance faculity.

Nobody will ever go to KCI for shopping or supper, anybody that travels knows that.

  11. 10:33 is spot on. I dropped in on both meetings yesterday and watched the KC Star reporter spend more time being briefed by city politicos on what to write than watching the proceedings. That's why there is nothing about the growing disconnect between the task force and leadership that began to boil over yesterday at Union Station, nothing about public comments that the process has been a sham and nothing about the fact that the task force is no longer even considering the cheaper option of simply repairing and upgrading the existing airport.

  12. ON THE ILLOGICAL WRITINGS OF FAEL ABRACADABRA

"Don't Let Southwest Airlines tell us how to rebuild KCI" is the title of this desperate rant from an exasperated fool, who senses his dream of dining and shopping at the airport slipping away.

The silly scribe looks into his clouded crystal ball and warns that Southwest Air might not be the biggest carrier at KCI in 10 years! Funny how he doesn't see his own employer continuing to implode. The McClatchy Company (MNI) has seen it's share price fall from $74.16 in March 2005 to it's present $6.16 price!

So, Fael proceeds to drone on and on about the fallacy of planning for the future (TWA's ideas for the new KCI in the late 1960's and early 1970's were short-lived).....BUT THEN shoots himself in the foot by illogically stating that while the airlines are untrustworthy, "the committee could develop excellent ideas that voters eventually could support, providing hundreds of millions of dollars for the upgrades."

Why not just say NO ONE CAN PREDICT THE FUTURE, SO IT'S BETTER TO SPEND YOUR MONEY VERY CONSERVATIVELY THAN TO TEAR THE WHOLE THING DOWN AND SPEND OVER A BILLION DOLLARS ON A NEW TERMINAL!
