This Sunday we're saddened to report cruel Kansas City reality after high hopes, faith and good intentions have failed to create any real change in the aftermath of disaster.
To wit . . .
TWO YEARS AFTER A DEVASTATING FIRE THERE STILL ISN'T NEARLY ENOUGH CASH TO START REBUILDING WESTPORT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH AND MIDTOWN KANSAS CITY DENIZENS ARE CALLING FOR ITS DESTRUCTION TO END THE FAITH-BASED BLIGHT!!!
Just as TKC PREDICTED . . . There was no angel investor or real community support to fix this magnificent structure that has languished . . .
Even worse . . .
GIVEN THE SNOW AND EXPOSURE TO THE ELEMENTS OVER TIME . . . THERE IS SIMPLY NO SAVING THE BURNED OUT STRUCTURE THAT NEARBY BIZ HAVE STARTED TO ACTIVELY WORK AGAINST!!!
Yes, yes . . . We know there's been a contention that the Church wasn't damaged (much) by the fire but the fact is that the facility remains lifeless and it's hard to debate its blighting influence.
As usual, big plans from BNIM never really worked out . . .

GET READY FOR EVEN MORE WESPORT DENIZENS TO START DEMANDING THE DEMOLITION OF THE SITE OR MORE IMMEDIATE ACTION AND TIME LIMITS ON ITS REHAB!!!
It seems that small biz owners are losing patience in Westport and on this Sunday it's painful to reveal that most people aren't content to wait around for kingdom come in order to start moving forward with eliminating this barely standing blight.

Westport Pres was a church that sponsored many activities and organizations that supported the poor in the area as well as LGBT groups. As pastor of the church for nearly 20 years, I can tell you that if you go over there today, Feb. 24, you will see that the general contractor in charge of rebuilding is on the scene doing the work they began earlier in January. Reconstruction is underway and we expect it to be done in 2015. Meanwhile, the church continues to sustain an important mid town child care center just behind the burned building, and sustains Children's Peace Quest, a 12 step group, a multitude of community arts activities, along with services to poor, young and elderly people in Westport. Also, bear in mind that the church was a victim of corporate negligence in this fire. The US Dept. of Justice/ATF documented the HVAC company negligence in causing the fire, so perhaps people will want to assist us, the victim, in seeking fiarness and justice from the responsible parties. A 180 year old community loving, neighborhood supporting congregation is still alive, and you can find us on Sunday and during the week, down the street at The Villa of Kansas City. Thank you. Rev.
