TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! CELEBRATE EXTREMELY RARE KANSAS CITY VOTER VICTORY TONIGHT!!!

Good news really isn't our idea of important blogging but here's something worth mentioning because a voter victory is a rare moment that almost never happens in Kansas City.

Check it:

GIVE CREDIT TO THE FRIENDS OF KCI FOR AN IMPORTANT KANSAS CITY CITIZEN INITIATIVE PETITION VICTORY THAT'S CAUSING MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL TO EAT CROW!!!

Moreover . . .

DAN COFFEY DESERVES A LOT OF RESPECT FROM VOTERS FOR STICKING TO HIS GUNS DESPITE A GREAT DEAL OF CRITICISM AND ATTACKS FROM THE CIVIC ELITE AND LOCAL POLITICOS!!!

Let's not forget that Dan was even thrown out of Kansas City meeting simply for asking questions and because power brokers knew that he was critical of so much talk about KCI airport schemes without any regard for voters.

Even worse . . .

We should also not forget . . .

Kansas City Mayor Sly James made an unprecedented move and came out to call the airport petition a waste of time.

But persistence, hard work and simple dedication to local Democracy won out today.

A KC Insider makes it plain:

"They really tried every trick in the book against Dan. They criticised him, they tried to make him into a joke, disregarded him and really came out with some nasty attacks against him but in the end it was Dan and the Friends of KCI who had the voters on their side and it's something that the Mayor and the City Council had to acknowledge."

More often than not Kansas City Democracy is done completely behind closed doors with little input from the public. Today, because of the Friends of KCI and Dan Coffey . . . Kansas City voters will get a chance to vote on the airport when the time comes and DESPITE the best efforts of so many local power brokers.

  1. When the Mayor tries to ram the airport through. He will lose

  2. It won't matter what the vote is. The crooks want this and will get it.

  3. It should not ever be this difficult to get "democracy" or Justice .. these people need to be removed from office, its like letting a retarded rhino loose for one term in a china store, they dont need a second term to damage things any worse than they already have

  4. Me thinks that if a person such as Dan Coffey were sincerely interested in challenging Sly James for the Mayor's job, residents might be pleasantly surprised at the wave of support which would manifest for a challenger.

  6. It's a good win for the folks. But it's only one in a best of 3.

    1) Get vote guaranteed
    2) Influence the outcome in the dialog between airlines and city
    3) Win the vote

Win the first two, the third is moot. Lose #2 and you have to win the third.

  7. This mayor is smarter than all of us combined. How dare we question the elites in the city. They want their fancy things we can't afford like Starlight, liberty memorial, performing arts center, and crossroads. Us rubes deserve to wallow in crime ridden shitty schools and work minimum wage jobs to pay for it.

  8. Its like the mafia is running KC again.

  9. Cult of personality don't fail me now

  10. Legal insiders suggest that upon closer inspection if you read it closely, no vote actually has to be taken. It's a rather hollow victory.

  11. The mafia created jobs and provided basic services to the neighborhoods.

  12. jobs through extortion. Yeah!

  13. WoW. Impressive. Good job, Mr. Coffey.

  14. Dan did it right. Mayor wanted to cast him as clay chastain but he was able to get the signitures needed.

This is why the Star and the City council want to change the petition process, so voters never have a say.

  15. Great. Another kelbasb salesman.

  16. Coffey for city council!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Coffey for Mayor. Run. Please. Help the people protect democracy from the lunacy of attorneys who chase ambulances for a living.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Shame that more city council don't want to hear voters until election time.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeah, note how this is all just a big punt until after the new council elections. Now no one has to commit to a position until it's too late.

    ReplyDelete
  20. This just shows what cowards the elected officials are. They bully small groups and individuals but when they sense that enough people are listening they quickly back down.

  21. Midst all the cheering remember that a vote of the people is not always honored... ask Clay Chastain.
