TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! FULL TEXT AND TODAY'S AIRPORT RUCKUS: FRIENDS OF KCI PUSH BACK ON CITY COUNCIL EFFORT TO SUBVERT KANSAS CITY VOTER PETITION!!!

Regarding a so-called City Council "compromise" wherein Mayor and City Council didn't even bother to get the opinion of petitioners who had garnered the support of THOUSANDS of voters . . .

THE FRIENDS OF KCI REJECT THE MOVE TO SUBVERT DEMOCRACY BY OVERLOOKING THEIR ORDINANCE!!!

Here and no place else, read the FULL TEXT of their message to City Council . . .

FRIENDS OF KCI

Our group, CFRG/FRIENDS OF KCI, collected over 5,000 signatures of Kansas City, Missouri, voters on our initiative petition to give the voters a say in the discussion of a $1.5 billion new single terminal airport. The petition was authenticated as sufficient and presented to the City Council on January 6, 2014. The City Charter only authorizes the City Council to within 60 days:

(1.) either to enact the ordinance as the petitioners (Friends of KCI) proposed or

(2.) send it to the voters at the next scheduled election.

Last Thursday, however, the Mayor and several members of the City Council introduced a separate ordinance with different language that does not accomplish the same ends as the petitioners’ (Friends of KCI) ordinance. Pursuant to the City Charter, the petitioners (Friends of KCI) do not agree to the Mayor and Council’s separate proposal. We stand behind the initiative petition signed by over 5,000 Kansas Citians and pursuant to the City Charter; we require our proposed ordinance in its original form to be submitted to the voters. Today, we have delivered the City Clerk and City Attorney our letter certifying this is what we require. We fully expect the City Council to obey our lawful demand, as required, and place our proposed ordinance on the April 8, 2014, ballot.

Good for them! I hope they keep it up and hold this Council responsible for putting their proposal to a vote of the people.
