There's a bit of good news . . .
THERE'S A PLAN TO PUT MAYOR AND COUNCIL ON THE SPOT WHEN IT COMES TO THE COST OF THE TOY TRAIN STREECAR AND ITS BUDGET IMPACT!!!
For now . . .
These meetings offer a few tragic revelations . . .
- Kansas City really is out of cash and this year has been horrible considering red light camera revenue removal, the snow storm and toy train expenses ramping up.
- The hiring freeze at City Hall continues for those who aren't politically connected.
- They're a promise to maintain basic services . . . Kinda like old and busted snow removal that didn't happen for most neighborhoods.

ReplyDeleteMaybe you should let someone look at it, who actually has a background in accounting. This mayor is a lawyer, & while your previous mayor was the city auditor, his background was in social work, not accounting. BTW, who was it exactly who hired a social worker to be an auditor? Stupid!
ReplyDeleteThe fundamental problem with budgets is revenue. Its impossible to predict the amount. Its just a guess. Its absolutely impossible to predict the revenue that can be traced back to the streetcar. There probably won't be any. It isn't possible. Its just hoped for ambiance & as such an intangible.
The only way this streetcar thingy can work is if your whole city's focus is on tourism & its just one part, & not just an after thought. The problem with this is that there is nothing unique about Kansas City, & despite what your mayor has said, Kansas City is NOT a destination. Who wants to visit a class divided, race divided, crime zone? Its simply not safe, or even a pleasant prospect.
Do we have an accounting as to cost-to-date of the current toy trolley project? I would have to assume it is well over the $102m figure.
