You know I was thinking Tony, as long as people are thinking about TKC. You should really do more public service stuff around here.

Yes, people are dumb but there's no question that there are a lot of repeat customers and folks who just visit the place throughout the day. Throw a few links and some signage to good causes. You won't regret it!

  5. Regarding TKC posts published on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 11:49 a.m.; Friday, May 13, 2011 at 4:47 p.m.; and Monday, May 16, 2011 at 8:00 p.m.: This blog is retracting those entries, and they have now been deleted from the archives. In the context of a tense debate over the MAST ambulance merger into the Kansas City Fire Department, this blog reported and offered commentary on arguments from anonymous tipsters aimed against former Local 42 Union President Louie Wright. TKC acknowledges that the claims were not verified and that such claims should be viewed as baseless. TKC agrees with, recognizes, respects and acknowledges Mr. Wright’s assertion that he has never profited from any charity work for the United Way or any other charitable or not for profit organization, with which he is or has been affiliated. Moreover, TKC would like to apologize to Mr. Wright for any distress caused by the posts.

  6. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – A radio talk show host slandered a woman when he

said she aborted Bob Dole’s baby in the early 1970s, a judge ruled, awarding the woman $1 million in damages. Steve Glorioso didn’t contest the case at trial on condition that any judgment be collected only from his insurer. Glorioso, now a political consultant, had a talk show on KMBZ-AM when he made the remark on the air in 1996 about Phyllis Wells Smith of suburban Overland Park, Kan. Dole was running for president at the time. Glorioso said Dole arranged for Wells Smith to get an abortion. But the former flight attendant and model testified she never had an abortion. Dole also denied arranging an abortion. Judge John O’Malley awarded the damages Thursday.

  7. Check A FULL STATEMENT by Steve Glorioso regarding Mayor Funkhouser after the jump . . .

I start by saying that finally our long, civic nightmare is coming to an end on May 1st and I am proud to have played a role.

For the Flunk and his people to point their figure only at me shows how delusional they were from the start. It also reveals what little regard they have of the media to think that all those fine journalists never had an original thought. And that he never did anything wrong or dishonest. Were the stories fabrications ? If so, he never disproved them.

I was certainly one of Mark's earliest critics and I wear that as a badge of honor. I was willing, as were almost everyone in the political and civic community, to extend a hand of cooperation to the new Mayor. Former Mayor Barnes, council members, and myself who worked with him as Auditor warned everyone he would be a terrible Mayor and that was before we ever knew there was a Gloria. But he was the Mayor and office warranted an offer of cooperation for the sake of the City.

But within months of taking office he gave at a Crossroads town hall meeting his now famous "forces of evil" speech. I was present and I did push that story as hard as I know how to get into the media and on to the public. There was a tape of the meeting and sent it to everyone I knew. I was so offended that those with whom he disagreed on economic development policy were "evil" in his mind. He never recovered from that bizarre statement.

I was equally appalled of how he and his wife lashed out at LaRaza and NAACP for their criticism of the Frances Semler appointment to the Park Board. Kansas City has a very dark history on race relations. The scab is still healing and he ripped it off and plunged our city back into the divisions of the 1960's. Unforgivable.

Those incidents were only the beginning of so many self inflicted political debacles over the next 3 years. I had little to do with any of those. Plus I never attacked his wife. He was responsible for her behavior in his office.

And their allegation of "protection" is an out right lie and if they keep using it they may be in another lawsuit. I heard that crap a couple of years ago and asked around with people who use to work for him and quit in disgust. The best anyone could come up with was a conversation Star columnist Barb Shelly had with Flunk where he was whining and she suggested that he hire me. That was never going to happen for love or money.

So the Flunk leaves office in disgrace. 71% of the people last Tuesday wanted him vanquished from their lives.

The City can recover with either Mike Burke or Sly James and the many good council candidates that are running this year. And the winners deserve our cooperation.

    Steve
