Kansas City Supports Charter Status Quo

Right now the Show-Me blog is reviewing recent proposed change to the charter that fell flat . . .

Apparently, Mayor Sly is strong enough . . . It's hard to disagree with that . . .

On the topic of council district change to 12 districts . . . "Research indicates that at-large seats serve as a break on government spending." I'm sure that's correct but it still hasn't stopped runaway spending in the era of Mayor Sly who has the final say on pretty much every decision made by the mostly weak and rubber-stamp Council.

The topic is on hold for awhile . . . But the fact is that City Hall doesn't even want to think of letting voters decide on changing the status quo at City Hall that really isn't working if our busted budget is any indication.

  1. Yes, Sly's big at twisting arms, threatening, promising, and all the rest when it comes to things like the streetcar.
Curbing violence, fixing streets and sidewalks, and demanding some decent management from the water services department....not so much.
He should have run for president of the CHamber of Commerce.

  3. I understand the theory here but in big cities that have several districts and no at large reps, the rabble have to work together in order to get the pork they seek. That sort of cooperation is somewhat rare as the prisoners' dilemma tends to be too much for them.
