  1. Sucks to lose a historic building, but I went to antique shows in the 90's w/my Dad and I thought it was OLD then.

  2. A forty year-old building isn't historic. That designation was caused by manipulating the historic tax credit program in Jeff City so that more rennovators could get the public to subsidize their dreams.
It's kind of like blight being designated at Briacliff so that TIF could be used.
If these buildings are so treasured by so many people it shouldn't be hard to raise enough money to "save" them.

  3. I apologize @9:58am. I meant Historic in the sense that there's a lot of history/memories in the building.

  4. The only historical aspect the developer is interested in are the tax credits. This is not being proposed to save a piece of Kansas City history, it is about buying it for $1.00, getting some low interest loans and tax credits to make changes then selling for a tidy sum of profit. Save Kemper my ass.

  5. Whether either of these proposals or something else comes along you can be certain of one thing:
The taxpayers of KCMO will be picking up the tab for someone else's dreams and schemes.
Having lots of grandiose ideas and no money is almost a requirement if you want to be a "developer" in KCMO.
And just like the P&L District, very few of these monstrosities ever perform financially and the public ends up picking up the tab for decades.
And the tax base continues to be eroded and that's why neighborhoods are encouraged to form CIDs so that they can pay AGAIN for the basic services they need from a city.
    Same song, 769th verse.

  6. Damn hard to believe that place is 40 years old. My ole man was with MMC who did a lot of work on the place guess was finished around 5 years before I was born. Seen some really good shows there.

  7. Modern Architecture looks like a paint factory.
