PROJECT SAVE OUR CHILDREN: FORMER KC MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FLEEING U.S. TO AVOID PAYING CHILD SUPPORT

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Tammy Dickinson, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced today that a former Kansas City, Mo., man who has been living in Thailand pleaded guilty in federal court to fleeing the United States in 2007 to avoid paying child support.

Randy Lee Essary, 60, of Springfield, Mo., pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Brian C. Wimes on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014. Essary was a resident of Chon Buri, Thailand, where he was employed as the senior vice president of development for Eclipse Hotels and Development, which is based in Manila, Philippines and in Hong Kong.

By pleading guilty, Essary admitted that he has failed to pay any court-ordered child support for his son for more than eight years, since January 2005. Essary owes $164,891 in child support.

Essary was a resident of Missouri in 1996. On Feb. 9, 1996, the Jackson County Circuit Court ordered him to pay $1,500 in monthly child support payments for his son, who currently resides with his mother in Utah.

Essary’s last documented entry into the United States and exit thereafter was on Sept. 12, 2007, to attend his daughter’s wedding in Illinois. Essary did not fly directly into the United States for the wedding. Instead, Essary flew from Thailand or the Philippines to Canada. Border crossing records confirm Essary then walked across the border from Canada into the United States at Blaine, Wash. He returned to Thailand in the same manner – by walking across the border at Canada and flying back to Thailand.

Essary was arrested at LAX airport when he returned to the United States on Feb. 22, 2012.

Under federal statutes, Essary is subject to a sentence of up to two years in federal prison without parole, plus a fine up to $250,000 and an order of restitution. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jane Pansing Brown. It was investigated by the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General.

  1. Child support is a Bitch!! Most men would rather be in the home and support their children with much more than a monthly check!!!!

But when I bitch decides she found bigger gold well as a man you are stuck with "Child Support" which means that you will have to pay to see your kids 85% less than you did when you were providing support for not only your kids but the BITCH you were married too.

Now guys, if you dont pay your child support on purpose and you have the money too...well then you got what you deserved. Now for those guys that pay and have paid bravo even though your money funds your ex's dates and vacations while your kid gets hand me downs! Now for these guys I will say this, if you get behind in your support, you better figure out a way to pay it because the state gives less than 2 shits about you, and they will take your drivers license (so you cant pick up your kids for visits) they will embarrass you ( by putting you on a dead beat dad list) They system is fucked up and definatly not designed in the best interest of the children. My kids are past 18 so I am not posting this because I am a bitter dad that cant pay his child support, but I have been through all the levels of hell in the past.

  2. I will also add that as far as your kids go they dont care about money or child support (as long as your ex doesnt brain wash them with why she hates you if cant pay)

Kids are smart and if you can pay or even if you cant its not about the money that your kids give 2 shits about, they only care about you being a Dad, and being in their life, and loving them PERIOD!

  3. And a woman is supposed to provide for their every need on her own? ^^^this is what's wrong with the world today^^^. What a d-bag. I suspect your kids are better off without you.

  5. Men need to be much more careful who they have kids with. And women too, for that matter. Men really should know that even the slightest bit of unprotected intercourse, as good as it feels, can lead to fatherhood. I'm not better than any of you men caught up in the nightmare, I'm sterile and could never make a baby. The child support nightmare should be taught to all junior high males. Always, unless you want a baby with the woman, use birth control yourself.

  6. Now, women who want a real father for their children need to heed these words as well. Don't let any old jimmy john into your promised land. Does he have a decent job? Is he good to his nieces and nephews? Does he pay his bills, or is he always our of money? Since, in the vast majority of cases, the women end up with the kids, they need to be even more careful.

  8. Who gives a shit "Joe" if you sign your name? Your word isn't worth more because you do. If you have something to say, you don't need to attach a name.

  9. Easy 10:31. Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers. Of course my posts aren't more valuable because I sign my name. Never said they were. Just putting a name, my real name, to my positions. Kind of more personable that way.

  10. The guy was stupid for even thinking about returning to the USA, a fascist police state. He should have stayed in Thailand where it appears he was able to live his life in peace, without having vengeful ex-wives on his back.

  11. I have some knowledge of both of these people. They were married and they mutually agreed to have a child. He left her about 4 months after their son was born. She raised her son on her own with no contact from the father. She never said an unkind word about the father to the son. She worked full time and used the initial child support to send her son to summer camp, private school and activities that would help him become a well-rounded young man. She also put money away for college. She has no other children and I heard she had vowed not to so her son wouldn't be penalized by her poor choices. This guy conned everyone. We heard he was being investigated by the FBI.
The feds initiated the child support case because the sum owed was so large.
I applaud those fathers who try and take an active role in raising their children. Kids should be the focus and parents' petty differences should be put aside. How could a parent not want to be a part of their child's life? This guy did not and he skipped out on the support. I don't understand why the majority of you assume this woman is vindictive because she followed the law.
