The streetcar will kill white babies, show me says so, cars only are safe and they are what all young people want and no one uses transit and we pay too much taxes for it and it disenfranchises businesses from voting places they don't live and a minority of people don't want it who are loud on the internet and I don't like hipsters and when I travel I rent a car and there's never any businesses along transit lines in other places and there are no bike/pedestrian/transit corridors they will steal you jogging trail and the mayor explained facts to 3 zealots and they did not like the facts so they heckled plus bill nigro says he doesn't like it because the city cut off funding to his unused party bus also snow sewers roads murder can not be addressed if there is a streetcar
ReplyDeleteSo Inside Brookside, has no opinion but left the meeting early because in her opinion nothing more was going to happen. I noticed it appears you made no attempt to help in asking questions yourself? I agree with the people the other issues such as water, street, sewer conditions and high crime are damn important issues over a street car that many feel isn't needed. So Mary it appears maybe selling houses is something you should stick with and not writing fairytales. You're pro street car because you think it will help you bank account in the end.
ReplyDeleteI was there. After all the rumours and misinformation was dispelled, the true colors of the opposed were revealed-they don't want more black folk having access to their neighborhood. And it was couched as crime, but the mayor got it. I saw it in his face. It's Wally world all over again. I'm so embarrassed. I've got to get out of Brookside before it wrecks my belief that actual progress has been made in this country regarding race relations. I am obviously in the minority in the way my neighbors think. I haven't made my mind up for or against the train, I'm skeptical of both sides but the undertone was so... and I suck for not speaking up but... I'm a douche, I know but I know what happened to those who spoke up about the grocery store and no thanks, yep, I'm a pussy. What I don't understand about the crime fear is that what, they think someone is going to ride the streetcar to what, steal a tv then take it back on the trolly? Or ride the trolly to rape (laughable as most rapes are aquaintence rapes) or murder then ride it back lol? Come on...the fear of my neighbors from brown people has reached an illogical, almost hysterical point.

ReplyDelete11:46, you may have been there but you either didn't comprehend what was said or you came with expectations that clearly shaped your perceptions. Crime came up as a topic because we live in a high crime metro area and, along with a dysfunctional and unaccredited school system, feel there are much more appropriate places for the mayor to be spending his energies and our money. I think the real racists in our midst are those who try to twist every issue into a racial one. I have no beef with people who have a different skin tone than mine but aggressively stupid people are another matter.
