THE TKC SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST!!! KANSAS CITY MAYOR AND COUNCIL INCREASINGLY OUT OF TOUCH!!!
As election season quickly approaches in Kansas City . . . It's important to take stock of our political leadership and their connection to our community.
To wit . . .
OUTSIDE THE CIRCLE OF ELITE AND SPECIAL INTERESTS . . . MAYOR AND COUNCIL SEEM EXCEPTIONALLY OUT OF TOUCH WITH THE AVERAGE KANSAS CITY RESIDENT!!!
Quick review . . .
From the toy train to the airport to so much blathering about tech an economic development . . . Under the leadership of Mayor Sly James it seems that the current epoch of local government is more comfortable with lobbyists than community meetings.
Of course we have examples . . .
- First off, the toy train doesn't represent community sentiment or transit support. Lift up the curtain and we have documentation that it's nothing but a scheme for contracts both PR and engineering from the local elite.
- Check out Save KCI and realize that public sentiment is resoundingly against the single-terminal scheme.
- Amid the budget debate the effort to increase borrowing and CUTS TO POLICE are drawing ire throughout Kansas City proper.
Nevertheless . . .
MAYOR SLY AND THE CITY COUNCIL SEEM ALOOF AND UNRESPONSIVE TO GROWING COMMUNITY COMPLAINTS BECAUSE THEY SPEND MOST OF THEIR TIME AMONG THE ELITE, CONSULTANTS AND CLUELESS CIVIC BOOSTERS!!!
For lack of a better term, "polite discussion" is driving Kansas City bankrupt and giving the mistaken notion that this town is on the right track.
The only bit of hope is that Kansas City might use budget meetings to demonstrate their concern to the out of touch Mayor and Council. But we've been through this before and we know these meetings are woefully under-attended and very boring.
Every now and then there's push back . . . For instance, the defeat of the Jackson County Translational Tax offers just a bit of hope that the electorate isn't completely disconnected.
But either way . . . As taxes, borrowing and spending continues from the Mayor and Council amid the cheering and unwavering support of their acolytes and those seeking sweet contracts . . . It's clear that Mayor and Council are now completely out of touch with the reality of life on Kansas City streets.
And all of this has inspired tonight's playlist . . .
As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe and fun Saturday night.
