Kansas City Charity Cab Debate Top 5 Preview

This morning at City Hall there's going to be a somewhat important debate regarding the cab biz in Kansas City.

It could signal a bit of an end to the Bill George and Yellow Cab monopoly OR it could prove their power . . .

We covered the Kansas City Taxi Controversy FIRST and before everybody else . . .

Now check the TOP 5 things to watch for this debate . . .

1. Nobody knows why Council Dude Russ Johnson wants to do anything nice for anybody . . .

Seriously, the charity cab thing is debatable and has both good and bad sides but nobody every guessed Council Dude Russ would care . . .

2. Kansas City Non-Profit Angle Cab Insurance Debate ...

For denizens of the non-profit scene, this is the most interesting aspect of the discussion. The iTN Kansas City cab network claims volunteer drivers are insured by their own policies but the Yellow Cab side says that once money changes hands, that insurance is no longer valid. This will be a talking point that should inspire some good debate.

3. Let's See Who Owes Bill George On The City Council!!!

We're watching what Mayor Pro Tem Sexy Cindy will be doing on this one . . . She's the most conflicted Council lady and word is that she might not even show up during this vital committee discussion.

4. Small Kansas City Taxi Market Share ...

This ordinance #140028 really doesn't cover a lot of people . . . Old and blind and just REGISTERED NON-PROFITS . . . It's unlikely this will inspire everybody to get in the cab game if it passes but watching Yellow Cab and their French overlord protect their turf is interesting.

5. The Somalis Are Watching . . .

Whatever happens this committee session will have implications for the Somali community who have been making national news with their fight to get into the cab game and City Hall holding them at the gate out of respect for Bill George & Co.

  6. Former Councilman and Bill George Whore Dan Cofran1/16/14, 8:14 AM

So what? I believe that a good privately held and unregulated monopoly is good for business and let the public be damned.

took one of these in boston. pretty sure it was sidecar but i was pretty crossfaded. really quick and effective, was picked up in a nice clean prius. 15 minute ride cost about 9 bucks. pretty good money for the driver, pretty good service for the customer.

  8. Don't forget Craig Bates and Checker. He has 25% of the market but flies under the radar. Where's he at on this?

  9. You can bet your lat doller Bates and George are togethr. They always are and people don't know it.

  10. They may want to hire some cabbies who know how to use a 4 way stop. Cabs are constantly running the stop signs at 16th and Baltimore. But of course, learning how to use a 4 way stop for some of those yahoos is probably a little difficult.

  11. Bill George is a crook, plain and simple.

  12. Nope, it's the council who are the crooks. Yellow cab is just protecting their busienss, you can't blame them for that but the Council is supposed to look out for the people and they aren't doing it.
