Columnist Lewis Diuguid: Path to improving Kansas City schools must pursue 'greater good'

A notice of upcoming meetings:

Members of the Missouri General Assembly,

We want to let you know about the Department’s efforts to transform unaccredited school districts in Missouri. We have collected a number of plans from education organizations as well as commissioned a study on how we can create the conditions for improvement in student achievement in unaccredited districts.

To that end, we are holding four public hearings for feedback on these plans. With this feedback, we will create a statewide plan for support of and, if necessary, intervention in unaccredited schools. We hope to bring our recommendations to the State Board of Education by February 2014.

The public hearings are as follows:

Hearing in Kansas City on January 29 from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Kansas City Public Schools-Paseo Academy Auditorium
4747 Paseo Avenue
Kansas City, MO 64110

Hearing in St. Louis on February 4 from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
University of Missouri-St. Louis—JC Penney Conference Center
1 University Boulevard
St. Louis, MO 63121

Hearing in Sikeston on February 6 from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
City of Sikeston-Clinton Building
501 Campanella Drive
Sikeston, MO 63801

Hearing in Springfield on February 6 from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Missouri State University—Plaster Student Union, Room 400
901 South National Avenue
Springfield, MO 65897

We are also gathering feedback through a form on our website. We welcome your feedback on these plans. Please visit to submit your input and share this link with your constituents and colleagues via social media and other outlets.

Note to Lewis DoBad:

I refer you to your own written words from the article...."let go of retribution, embrace the future and think of what people can do now to lessen inequality and direct society toward a greater good."

Mr. DoBad, PLEASE cease and desist with your perpetual harping on historical injustices and join the rest of us in the present day.
