Two Independence residents each received sentences of more than five years in prison Thursday for intimidating an African-American family at its Independence home in 2008.
Deets:
"Cheek Herrera and Smith admitted in August that in June 2008 they violated the civil rights of the family. Cheek Herrera helped Victoria Smith draw a swastika on his head. He yelled, “White power” and made “Heil Hitler” gestures at the home in the 600 block of South Arlington Avenue."
A tragic case to be sure but made even more embarrasing given that it's hard to claim racial superiority while living in or around Independence, MO.

ReplyDeleteThe state right in question was whether states could decide for themselves whether to be free or slave states, throwing away the Missouri Compromise. So, yes, the war was about slavery. Everything in America was about slavery after the passage of the Fugitive Slave Act in 1850. There is no such thing as "White's Rights".

ReplyDeleteAs for racial superiority, Tony, I do think Independence is a place that, in a way, shows superiority. I don't claim to know why, but it is true that low-income white cities have low murder rates while low-income black cities have high murder rates. In my opinion, that is a form of superiority. Whether it's because of race, I do not know. But I do know it correlates VERY strongly with race. I doubt poor white people want the sort of violence that the poor black community will bring with them. I know a lot of blacks are innocent and want to escape the violence themselves, but it always seems to follow them. It's a complex problem and I guess I've said enough here.
