Check The Busted Kansas City Budget!!!

City Hall just posted this today . . .

Read The KCMO Budget For Yourself . . . We Know You Won't!!!

From even a cursory reading we know that this document from the City Manager's office is mostly fiction.

HOW FUNNY IS IT THAT THE BUDGET COVER SHOWS A KANSAS CITY BUILDING IN FLUX AND SOLD OUT BY CITY HALL POLITICOS?!?!

Policy wonks and finance dudes . . . Your comments are welcome here or via e-mail (tony@tonyskansascity.com) . . . Despite so much toy train and streetcar propaganda, the reality is that this town is headed toward bankruptcy more quickly than anybody realizes and THAT' is why we're in for another slew of tax hikes this year.

  1. Does anyone seriously imagine that any employee of a bloated bureaucracy will ever voluntarily challenge the squandering of revenues when that might cost them their own paycheck, bonus, contract for their brother-in-law, etc.?

  2. If the pension funds are still underfunded by $600,000,000 the city will need to fund the pension for the current amount plus an additional $50,000,000 to $60,000,000 annually for 20 years. This would make up for the money they essentially borrowed from the pension funds by underfunding them for all these years.

Its more likely that KCMO will take the Detroit route and ignore the problem until its too late if its not already.

  3. Seriously, what is the museum doing on there? It's symbollic.

  4. The Museum is the poster child for city neglect. PIAC funds that could have been used to further Corinthian Hall's renovation are instead being used to pay interest on streetcar studies. I think it's emblematic of the city hall shell game.

  5. There are about 10 assistant managers making six figures the city could get rid of and no one would miss.
