Can We Conquer Kansas City's Digital Divide?

There's a lot of talk about tech disparity and the so-called digital divide but so far only one local group has stepped up to do anything about it.

For years now we've blogged about the adventures of Connecting For Good and their effort to provide Internets and low cost computers to the masses in the urban core.

Here's another update on their progress . . .

KCTV5: Personal computers for $50 and laptops for $75. It isn't some big sale, but a new effort to break the digital divide.

Better still . . . The reality is the manufactures and outlets like Walmart (yes, Walmart) are selling new computers at the same price and Internets connectivity isn't so far beyond the reach of urban core denizens. A closer look at the Digital Divide would reveal that content creators and Independent voices from the urban core are more desperately needed IN ADDITION TO connections.

And that's why we read Nichole Bitchie and aren't too surprised by that cussing kid in Nebraska.

  3. Damn I wish I was a lazy nigger living off of welfare so my kid could get cheap laptops and internet. I guess I'm just stupid for working two jobs.

  5. The digital divide is really a weird name for the class divide. We can't fight against poverty because of ignorant racist like 8:05.

The countries that spend the most on 'welfare' have the best economies, because when you give money to poor people they spend it (unlike the rich who hoard) & this increases the demand for goods & services, & stimulates the economy.

Reagonomics, & hating on the poor, has gotten us to where we are now.

  7. No, dumbass. Why don't you shut up, for a change?

Its Friday night in the big city. There are a million things to do, & the cowards come here to anonymously hate on people. Go to the Eastside & talk some tough shit.

  8. Bryon I can't understand why your Dad and Brother didn't have you killed when they had their chance. It would have been a favor to the human race.

  10. Thanks 9:16

They think that if they say STFU, they've won the debate. Ms. 7:49 is just a sick animal.

  11. Tony I am so god damn tired of seeing Byron Funkhouser’s shit on these posts all the time. He is ruining your site. He is not from around here and adds nothing to this local blog. His insight is hateful as a rule and does not reflect the views of people in Kansas City.
