Northeast News: Black pleads guilty to charges related to 2013 incident with Mayor James
The deets:
"Derron Black, as part of a plea agreement, was sentenced at a hearing yesterday afternoon to one-year probation. Imposition of the sentence was suspended on condition that Black adhere to several probation conditions, including 10 days of shock jail time, attendance at an anger management class, continued mental health counseling and continuance of bond conditions already in place, including keeping a safe distance from the mayor and his security detail."
What did we learn from all of this . . .
- Mayor Sly isn't as beloved East of Troost as it might initially appear.
- Turns out the Mayor of this town does need security.
- Without a vote or any forum to voice dissenting opinion, residents get frustrated.
Seriously, we wish Derron Black the best and encourage all of Kansas City to challenge their elected officials in an appropriate but still BOLD manner.

He shouldn't have accepted a plea. He shouldn't have even considered one. Better to be tried on exaggerated charges. It denies ownership of his actions. An act of protest/civil disobedience should not be apologized for. The pleas is hardly a 'deal', the consequences he's accepted are extreme & unjust.
