TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT OVER BUDGET?!?! INSIDERS CLAIM KCFD HASN'T MADE CUTS TO SAVE TAXPAYER CASH!!!

More pricey firefighter gossip to start the day . . .

TKC EXCLUSIVE: THERE'S TALK THAT THE KANSAS CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT BUDGET IS RAGING OUT OF CONTROL AFTER KCFD HAS FAILED TO MAKE MANY SIGNIFICANT CUTS THROUGH ATTRITION OR OTHERWISE!!!

Basically . . . They KCFD seems to be daring Mayor Sly and the City Manager to cut their purse strings since political pressure won the day for them last time around . . .

This one really isn't so shocking given that City Hall's economic picture has deteriorated overall and the only muni-workers to get RIF'd have been low level City Hall employees who aren't Union affiliated.

Developing . . .

Comments

  1. Here's a better question TKC.

Why should the KCFD cut $10 million when the Mayor's office keeps hiring people?

Answer that and then you'll get a more informed perspective.

  2. When is Sly going to make changes to insure the KCFD retirement program is comparable with private company plans.

  4. Why should we cut public safety when the city is spending 100 million on a bullshit train!? Your worried about the wages of a firefighter?? Chump change compared to the spending this city does in other places

    ReplyDelete
  5. Why so much hatred toward the FD today tony?

  6. kcfd runs the show, they give sly the orders.

  7. The State should take control of the fire department, return EMS to the private sector, and let go of the police department.

    ReplyDelete
  8. That doesn't make any sense, it's mast that is causing the budget over run.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Sure it does. There is no MAST anymore. It's KCFD. The over runs are caused by FD management using high priced hosers fill openings instead of hiring medics.

      Delete
  9. Better yet, break EMS off back to the private sector and roll PD & FD into one, making them a public safety department.

You shed the millions that Smokey said he could safe (but didn't), and dump more millions by eliminating duplicationsin PD & FD.

  10. And here we go again with the annual "crisis speech" from city hall. Every December, before the city manager is set to release the proposed budget, there is some imaginary "crisis" that shows up just in time.

I have noticed that it's not the city council, the mayor's office, the city manager, or any TIF commission that ever gets blamed for our out of control budget.

It's always the city employees that get pooped on. Let's see, what was the give away to Cerner to lure a few jobs to the city? What was the giveaway to any TIF project to lure 50 jobs here or there from one side of the city to the other?

What was the amount paid to some marketing or legal firm in the name of "EMERGENCY" legislation?

Look back a few years and you see this kind of chicken little the sky is falling doom and gloom.

  11. Who does the fire chief work for, oh yeah, the city manager! Who is at fault? Fire Chief, city manager... Who will pay the price, other department employees... Thanks!!

  12. There's talk that prostate massage is a fine solution to a paradox I was confronted with in my family.

Masturbation is prohibited in the bible, but with two teenage sons I know all too well the facts of modern adolescent life. I prohibited masturbation in my house and was rewarded with messy sheets on an almost daily basis from nocturnal emissions.

Then a friend told me how she stops both in her household, via prostate massage. Now I drain the boys daily by having them take turns bending over the sink, dropping their pants while I insert a finger into their anus and manipulate the prostate until they expel semen into the sink.

Naturally I wear a surgical glove and use KY jelly to minimise discomfort.

I find this an excellent, non-sexual way of releiving their frustration and saving them from the sins of masturbation and pre-marital sex. The youngest has this done daily, although I now find with my eldest I have to drain him in the mornings before school and in the evening before bed. At first it took a lot of effort to stop them from touching their penises when I massaged them, but now they are accustomed to it.

I recommend this to mothers everywhere, and also use this technique on my husband when his advances are unwelcome. The obvious health benefits for a man in his 40s are attractive too, and I have purchased a PS2 from this company for him to use.

  14. It's all that fuel and wear and tear of millions of dollars of equipment being ran up and down the roads doing stupid stuff like going to eat at Price Chopper or QuikTrip for a snack or attending funerals and visitations along with off duty related doctor and dentist visits.

it's that mentality that makes budgets run over.

  18. I don't understand why people get so upset about FF going to the grocery store in department vehicles. this is a serious question, and not a jab at either side, but it is a twenty four hour on call job. they need food for the firehouse. Is it like a normal job where people are supposed to bring their own food from home? or is it more like a corporate job where you stay overnight at a hotel and have a daily stipend for food? If they are on call the whole time they are at the firehouse how should they get it if not on a truck???

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Maybe they should work 8 hour shifts then.

      Delete
  19. 11:23 I am retired FF and we never took a unit to the grocery store. We never took a unit to go out to eat. Meals as all other events that was to take place on our shifts was planned out. Menus was made and who was bring what the next shift. As a rule one person did the shopping and we all took turns doing it and brought it with them when reporting for duty. It's a real easy task to do but I guess KCFD and far as that goes most fire Dept. in Kansas City anymore think it is ok for guys to go out running around the district like a unit is a personal vehicle.

  20. I think eating is a personal event such as going to the bathroom. I know of no city or department that wouldn't allow you to do both. But at same time I have seen a few fire stations inside during special events or open houses and will admit they do have some rather impressive kitchens in them. Now I don't know if they are all this way but that's facts of life as well. We don't all get to drive Cadillac's either. But the point being why not bring the food with you to work? Why should we the shoppers at a store have to be at risk as you go racing out of the parking lot where there might be kids to a fire? In winter time or when it is raining trucks and a lot of times anytime sit there running for what ever reasons. This isn't cheap either when it is all added up fuel and maintenance wise. All because a group of firefighters can't deal with planning a meal coming up in a few days or in one day?

  23. Whats more important. A toy train or a fire department that can often save and prevent your home from burning down to the ground?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well fire is by far but as well don't mean it has right to a free for all in spending either

    ReplyDelete
  25. Why should the fire department be the only entity in city government that comes in on budget?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm glad the Fire Dept. Shops for groceries on duty. I've actually seen them resuscitate a person while at a grocery store. You never know where or when something will happen to you or your loved ones. I don't want their job with the crap that they see everyday. It's their money out of their own pockets and they can spend it however they want to. I for one am pro firefighter if you couldn't tell. More power to them!. You will change your tune once they save your butts one day.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The lap after lap through congested traffic in power and light and westport is burning a ton of gas I'm sure. At least they are successful in picking up drunk girls and taking them back to the station to hang out while on duty.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I would like to add a few facts, for the sake of the argument.
    1. Meal planning sounds great, but fire fighters get detailed to other stations and districts as well as covering vacancies on the ambulances outside of their normal station. Also, assigned training splits companies throughout the day.
    2. Fire fighters and paramedics assigned to stations don't get scheduled breaks or lunch hours like normal jobs.
    3. In big stations after assignments and details take place, the station pools their money and 1 rig goes to the store while the others stay in quarters.
    3. The rig is always in service and responds to any call that comes in. That's why the rig and all four fire fighters stay together and is ready to respond.
    4. We have burnt, destroyed and missed plenty of meals, but that is the nature of the job. Usually the day brings enough down time to eat, so they rarely complain. We have had ambulance crews not eat lunch till 5pm and ate dinner at midnight. I've seen more than 1 medic run to the rig with a sandwich in their hand.
    5. We love our jobs and take the good with the bad. Spending time in the grocery store, spending time interacting with our community we serve. Is good for us and them. They see us as part of the community and we support our local business.

Ps. I am off duty as I make these comments.

Funny these folks have all figured out how to do it but a bunch firefighters for some reason say they can't or are not able to deal with it. I bet many a doctor or nurse has missed a meal or had one go cold. Face it firefighters you just like joy riding around while at work. Does the airport crew take that huge ass crash truck to Price Chopper to get lunch?

Goddamn that's funny 3:07 but you bring up a good point. I bet the FAA would have a shit fit if they knew a crash truck was off airport property so the crew could go to chow at Price Chopper. 38. A fire truck going to the grocery store while staying in service to the community is a better use of resources than that same fire truck driving emergency to a 911 call for some less than intelligent person who uses FD/EMS as their primary care physician and wants to go to the emergency room in an ambulance for the flu/common cold. The second scenario happens more often than not so before you judgmental internet trolls on your couch spew your hate about trucks going to the store be a little more informed.

  41. 4:08 what fucking planet you come from? The two items for one are partly related if you look at it as firefighters abusing the system on one part and a small minority of citizens abusing it on another. Yes I am sure EMS calls happen that way but it don't mean or make grocery store or non department runs anymore viable.

Tune in tomorrow and maybe PD will be getting it

    ReplyDelete
  44. @5:00 I am from the planet reality. If you had any clue you would know that the people who use 911 for stupid shit (and that includes use of PD, FD and EMS) are NOT the minority. They call because they can't figure out how to put batteries in a smoke detector regularly, or need an ambulance because its too cold/hot outside and none of the shelters will let them in because…wait for it…they're drunk. By the way, before you cuss at me learn proper English. "don't mean" should be "doesn't mean".
