It's late Friday afternoon and here's "news" from the office of the KCMO and KCK Mayor regarding a foodie and charity bet for soccer glory . . .

Mayor James and Mayor Holland Team Up for Wager with Mayor Becker of Salt Lake City, Utah and Mayor Dolan of Sandy, Utah

Mayors James and Holland bet on Sporting Kansas City to bring home the Major League Soccer Cup this weekend


Today, Mayor Sly James of Kansas City, Missouri and Mayor Mark Holland of Kansas City, Kansas issued a bet to St. Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker and Sandy Mayor Tom Dolan. Sporting Kansas City is based in Kansas City, Kansas and Real Salt Lake City is based in Sandy, Utah. After Sporting Kansas City clinches the Major League Soccer Cup, Mayor Becker and Mayor Dolan will send to Kansas City a deluxe package of Salt Lake City’s finest gourmet foods.

“Sporting Kansas City is a source of pride for this entire region and I’m looking forward to our team finishing this season strong and bringing home some hardware,” said Mayor James. “Saturday will show us just how “real” Salt Lake City’s game is. Go Sporting!”

“Sporting Park will be #LOUDER than ever on Saturday night. We’re so excited that Kansas City will host two of the biggest soccer matches of the year with the MLS All Star Game and now the MLS Cup,” said Mayor Holland. ”#IBelieveThatWeWillWin! Go Sporting!”

Should the Salt Lake City squad prevail, Mayors James and Holland will send a sampling of Kansas City barbeque to Mayor Becker and Mayor Dolan. However, the local mayors intend to keep that for themselves as they bask in the glory of Kansas City being home to the Major League Soccer Cup winning team. In addition, the losing mayors will make a $200 donation in private funds to the winning mayors local charity of choice.
