Shocking Odds @ The Prosecutor's Office Confront Jackson County Rape Victims

Fox4 reports a sobering stat about the level of lawlessness facing Kansas City women: "If you are raped in Jackson County, statistics show you have a one-in-four chance of having your case ever getting to trial."

  2. These stats aren't unique to Jackson County, they are pretty much on par around the nation. And imagine, 1 in 4 when even thousands of rapes go unreported.

  6. The problem is that there are quite a few reported rapes that either lack sufficient evidence or just are not rapes. With that said I think sex incidents should be fully investigated and resolved, but there are a number of legitimate reasons why sex offenses are not charged and one of the biggest is that the investigative results do not equal the crime of rape. Unfortunately no police agency or prosecutor wants to have the public believing there is no justice, but all to frequently blaming the system is the first place folks go in their heads when they just don't know the whole story.
