On a FREEZING COLD night in the Crossroads . . . First Friday in Kansas City for December 2013 was rather low key . . . And cold . . . But still totally worthwhile.
There were a few shows worth seeing but we avoided the bitter chill by hanging out @ Crossroads Coffeehouse and checking out some tunes.
More than anything we were BLOWN AWAY BY KANSAS CITY SINGER AMANDA WISH AND HER AMAZING AND BOOMING VOICE . . .
Local music aficionados won't be disappointed by checking out Amanda's tunes online . . .
She has been performing locally for about a year and this Kansas City native looks to embark on a national tour soon. She's a regular @ Knucklehead's and a few other open mics around town.
Next up was 3 Bricks Shy which was a competent acoustic band with a some thoughtful songs . . . They saved their best number for last.
Interestingly . . . Camped out @ The Crossroads Coffeehouse was a really nice Kansas City health worker named Aileah . . .
Aileah is a "Sexpert" working for Planned Parenthood who was answering health and sex questions and also giving a bit of advice on the Affordable Care Act . . . Basically I learned that Obamacare was going to save my life . . . And I stole some free condoms.
All things considered, the Crossroads First Friday of 2013 December Freeze-out was certainly worthwhile and a nice bit of respite from an otherwise contentious week.
Heard her last Tuesday @ Knucklehead's. Not bad.
