ReplyDeleteI've been to two Chiefs games. Both were in the late 90's. Either I'm an asshole magnet or the entire stadium was filled with assholes, but it was bad enough for me to never want to go there again.... This was over 16 years ago! I can't imagine how lame it must be now. Shortly after those incidents, Bill Maas tried to pick a fight with me and my buddy at the Plaza Bristol. A name change from Arrowhead to Asshole Stadium would get my vote, for sure.
ReplyDeleteIt's not that security doesn't do enough. It's personal responsibility of people who can't handle their alcohol. The people I see shit faced there aren't some frat guy. They are guys old enough to know better. And if this is how they act when they drink then they shouldn't drink. I had a little run-in with Mr. Van Winkle myself last weekend at the game during the first quarter. He was absolutely hammered. I'm not saying he deserved to be beaten and killed but he was very drunk. His dad is not telling the truth. And yes, there are plenty of people who party in the parking lot during the games and they are probably the worst. They can keep drinking their free beer as fast as they want. It's painful to chug $8.25 beers in the stadium. It slows people down. I don't know what the answer is. Where I went to college they won't let you tailgate in the lot during the game, they make you go inside but it's also a DII school and easier to patrol. If you open the lots later people will just drink at home so that doesn't solve anything either.

DeleteArrowhead comes and goes. When they turn down the booze spigots they have less problems. The last time Arrowhead had this many alcohol problems was the late 90s which another poster here summed up well.
ReplyDeleteIn the off season they jacked up the prices for booze and stopped selling earlier and the problem corrected.
Obviously they need to go and hand out public intoxication tickets and check for underage drinkers. Possibly limit tailgating to 2 hours before kickoff rather than 3.

If you want to open the gates at 10:00am for a 3:30 game then go ahead and pay a few million dollars that you normally fly back to Dallas with every Sunday night. You can't have it both ways.

A couple of years back, I think in early December, a rich KS kid, Trip Ross, left Arrowhead way drunk in his fancy car and plowed into a cop car on his way back to KS. Ross severely injured one of the cops. Ross's BAC was WAY over the legal limit. Of course he could buy plenty of those $8 beers. I'm guessing the attorney in the car with him was either too stupid or too drunk to drive for Ross.

ReplyDeleteGot rid of my season tickets a few years ago, not because they sucked, but because it went from a crowd that had fun and truly wanted to watch the game, to a bunch of drunk assholes. If you wanted to fight, all you had to do was walk through the lot or down a concourse, you could get in a fight in about 2 minutes. Now I watch it from home, avoid the parking fee, high price beers, and assholes, and now have the best seat in the house.
