Toy Train Buyer's Remorse: Will The Streetcar Save Kansas City?!?!

This was the week when Kansas City put money down on toy trains in hopes to lure UNSPECIFIED busienss and tourists.

Links . . .

- KC Streetcar Authority talks conflict of interest

- Kansas City Council Approves $17.9 Million Streetcar Purchase

- Kansas City is buying four streetcars that will eventually run along the city's planned 2.2-mile, $102 million Main Street streetcar route. (TKC Hint: It's really more like $140 Million but NOBODY is counting)

Will the scheme work . . . So much Downtown subsidy thus has been justified by increased traffic despite huge losses. Nowadays more people aren't entirely sure if bankruptcy is better than surface parking lots.

  1. Save KC? Are you serious? It might be one of the final nails in KC's coffin. Just looking at the pics of them makes me laugh. They're like the trolleys that take you to airport parking in some cities. Comparing them to real public transportation is just technical speak. Because technically speaking, a rickshaw is public transportation, too. Would a rickshaw save KC?

  3. The streetcar is a massive scam. It only moves money from the city's pocket to the developers pocket.

  4. Ethical standard is that there is not the APPEARANCE of conflict of interest.

We will see if the legal or ethical application prevails.

  5. This WILL stand the test of time and be forever, Kansas City's largest waste of public funds. If it weren't so stupid, it would be laughable. Giggle on KC, you're getting totally fucked and don't even feel it....YET.

  6. Looks like Staubio's tit for tat new job was the reason the lawyer had to remind the board to avoid conflicts of interest. Of course we know this won't stop them from lining their own pockets. Just watch for graphicmachine to bid on the marketing contract and conveniently be the low bidder. Maybe someone fed them some inside info?

    What does this mean:
"The authority then went into a pair of lengthy discussions on whether Kansas City will be able to remove automobiles blocking the streetcar in a timely fashion"
What cars are they referring to?

  7. Only thing going to save this town is one hell of a lot less niggers running the streets and in city hall.
