KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS TOOK A MOMENT TO CHAT AND REVEALED TO US THAT OLD MAN KEMPER IS SOON TO KICK THE BUCKET!!!
Consider this a public service and a warning for newsies to go get their file footage and documents ready to broadcast with solemn and somber tones citing the history of Kansas City . . . Never mind that just about every homicide in this town is written off in casual conversation mode.
Don't get me wrong, TKC isn't hating on the ailing old coot in poor health and calling in family for his final moments . . . I care about the Kemper Clan about as much as they care about me. Not to say the old man Kemper isn't far more notable than your humble blog community leader. Sam Walton once called him "his personal banker" which is important because so many toddlers working in sweatshops need to be paid a few pennies a day . . . Also, I don't think I'm really going out on a limb here since he's an old-ass man and in the Sylvia-Plath sense of the term, we're all dying . . . To quote Tyler Durden.
Still . . . The upcoming passing of this old dude brings to mind the glory days of Kansas City that are now long gone.
Let's not forget that one of the last public acts of this rich dude was to make a pitch for free City money in order to improve his old and busted namesake arena . . . Note to local bums: Begging is much more dignified when you're wearing a suit.
Anyhoo . . .
The Kemper Clan have a great foundation that helps out many people . . . I even like their art gallery that their nice enough to keep free in order to show off their big-ass collection . . . But Kansas City is now in 4th Quarter crisis mode and it'll be a shame to see the media carry so much public mourning while urban core homicides mount.

His legacy is a bank that recently made the news due to the size of its losses and a name on an arena that should have been torn down years ago vs. being expanded. Well there is the Contemporary Art Museum that doesn't suck but that's about it. KC will do just fine without him.

Doctors are banking on further continued good news. Interest in his surprising health rebound is growing exponentially, while well-wishers are compounding an already crowded situation at the bedside.

He is right that we must tolerate excrement, but we need not love or admire it. Tony delights in being the turd in the punchbowl, not having accomplished anything himself. Let him dwell in being excrement; it is all he will ever accomplish. He deserves our pity more than our contempt.

ReplyDeleteDo you go to the Library? If you do, then thank the "Kemper Clan" as Tony likes to call them. They literally build the library's with their own hands. That's why Kemper gets the top job. The Kempers have given more to KC than this blogger or most of you useless people could ever dream.

But he lived a public life and he wanted the taxpayers to finances his stadium. What makes him so much better than anybody else?

ReplyDeleteWhile I have some issues with this branch of the Kemper family (I admire cousin James and his clan much more) I cannot fault him, even though I think that he got waaay too much publicity and credit for what he has done for the city. This family is classicly dysfunctional (exception is the James Kemper clan). But money can buy a lot of dysfunction, especially when paired with influence.

Tony, this is tacky, even by your standards. Just because the Kempers are a successful and prominent family doesn't mean you should be such a hater. Best wishes to Mr. Kemper for a recovery.
ReplyDelete10:40, Mr. Kemper is dying of cancer, I believe pancreatic. While he is no means perfect and there is a lot of dysfunction in his family surrounding his kids, he has been charitable to Kansas City, particularly in the area of contemporary art. As with nearly all people, there was good and bad in Mr. Kemper. As he lives out his last days, let's try to remember the good.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of people that have worked with and for Mr. Kemper, through the years and the vast majority of these people would agree that "Cros" was an extremely fair employer and leader. He has been "the" main supporter of Kansas City for many, many years now and for that, we are all in his debt. We should all wish him well..
