Sadly, this isn't exactly a hotbed of political activity and offers a reality check on the controversy.

"At police home rule town hall. Ruskin HS. Very few people so far . . . 20 citizens total. Mostly cops talking. One old crabby guy drilling the commission. He seems to be a state-run supporter."
On the bright side . . . The KCPD rank & file is very heavily vested in this process and mostly committed to keeping the KCPD out of City Hall hands.
The smartest comment of the night . . .
"We had a crazy mayor, we know what crazy looks like now . . . It would be nice to get more of a local say on the police board. But handing our police department over to the Mayor and Council overall would be a mistake."
Yael was in the crowd . . . Don't let his rhetoric pretend that this was anything close to a conclusive discussion . . . Earlier in the year the Citizens Association was able to turn out far more people and the overwhelming sentiment was that City Hall total control of the police was dangerous . . . It seems that KC stands by that that sentiment and calls to weigh in on changing the system aren't taking hold.
