JOHNSON COUNTY OPEN CARRY
Johnson County Open Carry has filed a civil rights lawsuit against the city of Prairie Village in Johnson County District Court for violating the rights of its citizens. Specifically the rights of Prairie Village resident Grant Nelson, who filed for a permit to hold an open carry picnic at Harmon Park in June of 2013.
James Nelson, lawyer from Garrison Law Office of Overland Park, has been retained by Johnson County Open Carry to represent them in their challenge of the unconstitutional ordinance banning open carry.
The U.S. Constitution, Kansas Constitution, and a uniform Kansas Open Carry Law, K.S.A. 12-16,124, allows all law-abiding citizens over the age of 18 to open-carry loaded, holstered firearms on property that is open to the public. The Attorney General of Kansas has recently issued three formal opinions declaring that Kansas citizens have this right!
Both Leawood and Prairie Village of Johnson County are openly violating these laws.
Johnson County Open Carry will work tirelessly to promote civil liberties and educate the public on these facts. We will not rest until all citizens of Johnson County have their 2nd Amendment rights restored.
