KCATA Launches Pilot 31-Day Pass
The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority announces a new transit pass that allows you to get the most out of your monthly rides. Beginning Sept. 25, customers can purchase the new 31-Day Pass at select locations, as part of a pilot program. The traditional calendar-based Monthly Pass will be phased out in spring 2014. During the pilot, the 31-Day Pass will be available at outlets in the Crown Center district, east Kansas City, downtown, midtown and in the Northland. In January the 31-Day Pass will be available online, with the full rollout in April 2014.
What is the 31-Day Pass?
With a 31-Day Pass you decide when your monthly rides begin. The pass is good for unlimited rides on Metro and MAX routes when you first insert the pass in the farebox. The pass will show “First Use” and “Expires” dates and times on the back. For subsequent rides, simply swipe the pass until it expires. (See example below). For added convenience, you can purchase the pass anytime during the month. You can begin using the pass the same day, a week or even a month afterwards.
