Slate Considers The Tragic Overland Park, Kansas Arboretum Sculpture Fight
Golden Ghetto politics and art continues to be a national embarrassment for a Kansas suburb in decline.
Recently, national opinion site SLATE offered a round-up of the Overland Park, Ks. debate as another example of petty "conservative" political maneuvering . . .
SLATE: Could a Kansas Grand Jury Really Indict a Sculpture? An outrageous right-wing effort to criminalize art.
"Conservative groups have turned citizen grand juries into a kind of legalized mob justice."
An interesting tidbit in the story reveals that defending the statue has already cost Overland Park $35k . . . So, it's a stretch to call sculpture opposition "conservatives" given that they really don't care about the finances of their community.
Still . . . This suburban debate over the frivolous among people who have way too much time on their hands proves to be a fun distraction as Johnson County poverty is on the rise.
