Rethinking Maryville Rape Allegation Rage
Just a few quick items to consider before celebrating the latest crusade powered by (self)righteous indignation . . .
KCTV5: Missouri AG says can't reopen Maryville teen assault case
CBS: Statement from the case file: "There was insufficient evidence to prove a criminal charge beyond a reasonable doubt. The State's witnesses refused to cooperate and invoked their 5th amendment privilege to not testify"
KMBC: Lawyer: Girl in Maryville case didn't cooperate with investigation
Also . . . Anonymous is very loosely organized and there have been minor league hackers using their name without the full support of the groups. Given that DDoS attacks can be executed by just about Filipino neophyte using Windows XP . . . I certainly wouldn't want to mess with the group but their ability to cause social change in Missouri might be overplayed given that the implication is that these are some rather serious backwoods attitudes being confronted.
Still . . . Good luck to everybody getting worked up over this story. Still, the he said/she said drama seems a bit convoluted given so many other clear cases of injustice in Missouri that are far more well documented.
