An important Kansas City afternoon note of support . . .

LMC Backs Jackson County Question 1

Kansas City, Mo. - The Labor-Management Council of Greater Kansas City has endorsed Jackson County Question 1 on the Nov. 5 ballot. Question 1 would levy a one-half cent sales tax to fund an Institute for Translational Medicine, which would convert basic research into health care cures.

“This investment by Jackson County can convert basic research being done at our hospitals, schools and at Stowers into jobs and cures for our citizens” said Bob Jacobi, LMC executive director. “This will also help keep and attract talented workers who are crucial to economic growth. And it’s an example of public-private partnerships that enhance the community.”

The Labor-Management Council of Greater Kansas City is a nonprofit association based at Rockhurst University. Comprised of more than 80 member organizations, the LMC’s mission is to enhance collaboration by solidifying trust and communication between labor and management in the community.

  1. Tony, The Labor-Management Council is really a second bite at the apple for the Chamber of Commerce.

You have the business interests that want access to public tax money through this, and some construction union types who know that most of this translational medicine bullshit is really just going to end up building new buildings for a couple of private hospitals.

  2. Shows why labor unions are a dying thing - their leadership is in bed with the rich. Leadership doesn't give a fuck about the rank and file. If and when the rank and file realize that, unions will be done for sure. Leadership will gain but rank and file won't but they don't care.

  3. Workers aren't going to see any benefit from this tax. Only the rich and ceos will benefit from this tax. Too many workers will do what unions tell them. A worker with a brain will vote no and forget what leadership tells them to do.

  4. Probably a little of that Civic Council money got spread around. Never think union leaders can't be bought.

  6. Labor Management Council does NOT speak for labor in this community. Sorry, Tony, but once again, you are wrong.
