TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY COUNCIL DUDE ED FORD TAKES ON THE GOP IN THE NORTHLAND OVER THE KCI SINGLE TERMINAL SCHEME THIS WEEK!!!

Kansas City 4th Quarter debate sets in this week as the locals and grassroots activists continue to do their very best to thwart the KCI single-terminal plan that's slowly moving forward.

Take a look:

"ATTENTION / Let the debate begin!! Our John Murphy has been asked to participate in the guest speaker portion of this program. He will debate Ed Ford on whether or not we need to spend $1.5 billion on a new single terminal airport. Please attend to show support for John and learn more about the airport plan!"

Remember that Mr. Murphy was probably the most lively speaker at the recent airport forum at The KC Public Library where Council dudes promised to wait for a public vote on the KCI Single-Terminal Scheme and then continued their course to push the project through without public consent.

Still . . . Kansas City Councilman Ed Ford is formidable in public debate and it's possible that he could change a few minds during this discussion. Remember there's a strong contingent of Northlanders begging (literally) for this cash that's mostly considered eco-devo for long-awaited infrastructure.

Here are deets about the GOP event, at a Golf Course of course . . .

    Mr. Tony,
This is from NPR this morning. I do fear our lackluster leadership at City Hall will be talked into some privatization as real money for the unneeded airport renovation is harder to secure.
We will build and they will not come. Ridership is down across the nation, new airports are struggling to make bond payments, KCI currently has gate fees at a low price of $4.62 compared to the national $9 average. Higher gate fees will make us less attractive to carriers.
As I travel I do get the notion that KCI is dowdy. BUT I do not travel to shop at airports. Get me in and out with little drama boarding my flights. I hate Minneapolis airport. Every damn time I have to sprint to the next plane. Very unlady like as I tend to curse when pissed.

    NPR:
"Now, experts say that doesn't mean privatization deals shouldn't have protections. The key is balancing safeguards for taxpayers with the opportunity for private investors to make a profit. That balance is trickier when leasing airports, as opposed to simpler assets, such as toll highways and bridges, says Joseph Schofer, an expert in transportation policy and finance at Northwestern University.

"These are bigger deals, more complicated deals and what the municipality, what the region or what they government agency is looking for is the movement of a big chunk of cash across the table to them so they can use that. And I think that investors are looking at that saying, 'There's a lot of risk and I'm not that anxious to be the first one to do that,' " Schofer says.

But, Schofer and other experts say airport privatization in this country will eventually take off, especially as the government entities that own and run them increasingly find it more difficult to raise big sums of money in more traditional ways."

I am sorry that Mr. Ed Ford wants to rebuild KCI. This is not an HGTV- low cost "big revel" We will pay out the rear for years and years to come.

  5. Ed is a great guy but 'formidable' isn't really an accurate description of his debating skill.
