TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! GOLDEN GLOVES COULD HELP SAVE KANSAS CITY FROM VIOLENT FLASH MOBS BUT MAYOR SLY'S OFFICE IGNORES OFFER!!!
Kansas City community volunteers grow increasingly frustrated that politics and bureaucracy stifle community based solutions to increasing violence.
To wit . . .
AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS HAVE OBTAINED A MESSAGE TO MAYOR SLY JAMES EXPRESSING FRUSTRATION WITH THE LACK OF INTEREST FROM HIS OFFICE TO A PROVEN YOUTH VIOLENCE DETERRENT!!!
TKC theory . . . The Mayor's office is mostly full of hipsters, acolytes and people so disconnected from the urban core that they don't realize that Golden Gloves is the rare exception to so many youth activity programs given its effectiveness, low cost and opt-in participation rules of urban youth.
Put plainly and in a language everybody can understand: Mayor Sly and his people claim Montgall roots but they no longer have any real connection to the community and clearly aren't listening.
Important . . . GOLDEN GLOVES IS IN NO WAY AFFILIATED WITH FLOYD MAYWEATHER OR ANY OF THE KCMO $15K SCAMMERS . . . Golden Gloves has always run a tight ship and steered clear of the politicking that has doomed other urban core organizations. Anyone even remotely familiar with Golden Gloves realizes that it's far more effective in youth mentoring than throwing a dance party and offering free pizza as a reward for taking a break from flash mobbing.
Now, we got a hold of this message 3rd hand but it's the real deal and has been floating around the local Internets for a minute . . .
Even worse, this letter reveals success for Golden Gloves across the State Line.
Take a look:
Message: Please forward to Honorable Mayor Sly James
Dear Mayor James,
Right to the point, I see that there continues to be problems with youth gangs invading the Plaza area and causing perceived disruptions to local businesses.
You and the media are on record saying it is because our youths do not have enough activities to occupy their time in a constructive manner.
I have offered for free my services and 45 years of successful experience of working with the youth of the community via the sport of amateur boxing. I have tried to live my life following the example of my mentor, the great community servant Arlington "Bubble" Klice. Bubble kept thousand of youngsters out of trouble and was always there for them when no one else cared. Sometimes that’s all it takes to save a kid from a troubled life.
I have talked with members of your staff, the P&R department and others and of course nothing of a concrete nature has matured.
What a shame when politics and bureaucracy prevents great programs from becoming a reality.
I have run the Turner Boxing Academy for seven year and serviced over 2,000 young people. We now have the most successful program in America of this nature.
Here’s how difficult it was: seven years ago I called the Turner Rec. Center and asked them if they would be interested in having amateur boxing as an activity. They said yes. I meet with them and presented my credentials and they found space for the program and we were up and running in 30 days. Over 120 young folks visited our first night. The program costs the rec center zero.
We at the Kansas City Golden Gloves have a 79 year history in Kansas City helping the youth of our community. What a shame we are not fully utilized. Bubble would be ashamed.
