THE SUNDAY SPECIAL!!! TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE: ORGANIZERS PLAN ANTI-GUN TRAYVON MEMORIAL IN KANSAS CITY!!!
BIG NEWS in the Kansas City culture war tonight that is too important to wait on . . .
To wit . . .
ORGANIZERS IN KANSAS CITY ARE WORKING TO RAISE FUNDS FOR A KANSAS CITY ANTI-GUN TRAYVON MARTIN MEMORIAL!!!
The anti-gun aspect we understand . . . Kansas City's rate of disproportionate gun violence and homicide count has decimated the economy in the town and a memorial to local victims would be appropriate. While it might be more appropriate to honor innocent victims like 3 year-old Damiah White who is Kansas City's youngest homicide victim this year and was gunned down in an East Side Apartment with her mom . . . This memorial plan is intended to send a political message.
And yes, organizers are hoping to put the memorial on The Plaza @ J.C. Nichols Park or at least that's one of the preliminary locations they're surveying.
Off-the-record . . . One organizer and fundraiser says . . .
"First of all, the memorial should be close to the site of our first groundbreaking 'Justice For Trayvon' rally. This was a historic event where Kansas City united to demand that the killing of a young man would not go unnoticed. Second, we are having so many problems with violence on the Plaza, this statue could serve as an inspiration and tribute that our young people are precious and their struggles will not be ignored."
TKC Reality Check . . .
Remember that Mayor Sly James led the crowd with a rousing address @ the 'Justice For Trayvon' Rally.
Also . . . The Mayor's current anti-gun efforts could well support or at least play into the Kansas City Trayvon Memorial pitch noted FIRST on TKC tonight. Natch.
