Once again Kansas City's 1% want this town to pay up in their honor.
To wit . . .
THE HALL FAMILY FOUNDATION "DONATION" OF $75 MILLION TO CHILDREN'S MERCY IS MORE LIKE A RANSOM NOTE TO JACKSON COUNTY TAXPAYERS!!!
On the surface it seems generous, but then again, most Jackson County residents won't be able to have accountants massage their tax forms and write-off the tax . . . Instead, the average (broke-ass) JaxCo denizen will be forced to pay up a hefty fee while the Hall Family Foundation get invited to all the great parties and treated like royalty as local benefactors.
Isn't there some old saying about giving with strings attached?
Anyhoo . . . I wasn't cynical about the Jackson County Health Tax until today and now this gives TKC license to write a post that I had been thinking about for a bit. Stay tuned and check the links:
KC Biz Journal: Hall Family Foundation donates $75M to Children's Mercy — with strings attached
KCTV5: The Hall Family Foundation has committed $75 million to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City to build a medical research building but only if voters approve a half-cent sales tax for such research.
KCUR: Hall Family Foundation Gives $75M To Children's Mercy, Maybe
Another power family in KC getting fat on the public tit, what a shock
ReplyDeleteFuck them. Either they want to donate the money or they don't. They can STFU now. I'm voting against it and hope that the majority will too.
ReplyDeletePraise Allah for the Hall Family!
ReplyDeleteI tossing my Halmark cards in the fucking trash. They are really shit anyway.
ReplyDeleteJ/K
ReplyDeleteI smell a jew behind this bullshit. When there are shenanigans like this going on....there's a jew.
ReplyDeleteThe Hall family are WASPS and they have to get a write off for their failing company anyway.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cheap trick. Either give the money for the good of the hospital because you believe in its mission, or don't give it.
ReplyDeleteWas Don Sr. potted in a rum bottle when this decision was made?
No shit. NO NEW TAXES!!!
ReplyDeleteSo, I'm sending out American Greetings this year or just an e-mail. Forget about this Kansas City family trying to flex their muscle.
ReplyDeleteIf those Hall fucktards think I'm voting in new taxes so later on they can look good in front of their society ass kissing buddies they are fucking on crack.
ReplyDeleteHalls/Hallmark is dying out. They need the tax write off probably. I hope all voters give a resounding NO on this tax to show them and other so-called scammer philanthropists in this town we're sick of their con games.
ReplyDeleteThe Hall family went and stuck its head where it doesn't belong. The tax will fail and their donation will not be relevant.
ReplyDeleteWow fuck that hall family. Feel sorry for children's mercy that this bullshit won't fly.
ReplyDeleteLet's recall the irony of them making a tax deductible donation in exchange for raising taxes on the middle and lower class. High society done right. Rich people worldwide will now laugh at how stupid kc is, just like regular folks already do cuz of the royals and chiefs.
ReplyDeleteI know next to nothing about the Hall's so correct me if you know I'm wrong. Seeing as they are a giant corporation, I'm going to guess they are like most other American corporations in that they have over the years done everything possible to avoid paying taxes. Contributions to friendly politicians, off-shore banking, shipping jobs overseas, and any number of other nefarious things. And now they want KC residents to pay more taxes? I know it's their money and they can do what they want with it but attaching a new tax to other people makes you look bad.
ReplyDeleteHall family: "I'll give you this $80 million 'gift,' but ONLY if you agree to pay an extra $800 million in sales taxes."
ReplyDeleteIdiot Jackson Co. Voters: "Deal! You're such generous philanthropists."
If this thing passes I'm moving to the Clay County...
Correction: It's only a $75 million "gift."
ReplyDeleteOh, don't worry. These effete snobs know what is good for you. Now shut up and pay up.
ReplyDeleteVote NO!
ReplyDeleteOld man Hall is still dead
ReplyDeleteThe doctors & researchers will live in JoCo. I guess they will be working at Children's Mercy South
ReplyDeletein Overland Park, Ks so they won't have to fight traffic. Sounds like the sports teams. We in Jackson County pay and the freeloaders in JoCo get the benefits.
And yet, they can't come up with the 400k to pay for the election, the taxpayers get the bill. If it passes, JACO will get reimbursed for the expense of holding the special election. If it fails, and despite this fact let's hope it dose JACO pays the full election bill! TKC pegged it- RANSOM.
